Toronto is on Lake Ontario if I'm right? Tim Horton wrecked the car he got as a signing, bonus with the Sabres. The Sabres general manager said "that car will be the death of him." Ithink both him and Pele Linburg died in Panteras, the car
Yup, right on the lake. I've lived in the Toronto area so long that going anywhere else that's on a lake. like Hamilton, completely screws with my sense of direction. "The lake is SOUTH, dammit!"

It is funny you mention this reaction to predisone. I didn't quite have the issue you described but any time I have been prescribed it, I feel uncomfortably restless and wired. I drink coffee every day and when I have been on prednisone I don't even drink coffee, maybe a sip to avoid getting headaches, but it is like my body is just beyond jittery when I take the stuff (even if it is just drops)
I understand exactly what you're saying, it's like doing Cocaine that brings on immediate paranoia.

I've had a little seepage when the rain comes down especially hard, because the landlord hired idiot contractors who don't understand that you slope the ground AWAY from the house, not TOWARDS it, but that was it until last Tuesday. This is the first time that I've had water come up the basement drain, at all. I'll be getting the landlord to install a backflow preventer and I don't envision having any more issues. Thanks, though.

EDIT - Oh, and I'm working on the grading myself, as the landlord can't be trusted to not hire the lowest common denominator.
I missed this post. Of the small 20 house semi-circle street I live on, we get flooded now every 3=5 years. We live at a point that is above what the creek flow "should" be able to accommodate but once the level rises it comes out the sewer and into our houses. It's all due to the sewer drainpipes that backflow

I've been interested in linguistic change, and how the internet has sped up creation and adoption of new words.

But TIL that ASL also morphs over time, which is obvious in retrospect but just never impinged on my consciousness.

Telephone went from a two handed gesture with a mouthpiece and receiver to a one handed extended pinky & thumb ("Y" letter or "hang loose" surfer symbol) held as a phone handset, but is now becoming a flat hand held sideways tot he viewer near the ear, to represent a mobile phone.

Also because of internet viewing and where people can see, the signing area is shrinking among new signers to better fit in what a phone would record/transmit.

No, Mississauga is fine. The lake is still pretty much south. At least as south as it is from Toronto, as the shoreline runs ENE to WSW. Hamilton, on the other hand, is around the tip of the lake so the lake is pretty much north from the city. The first time I was there was when I drove a friend home from a late D&D session, in Mississauga. It was maybe 2:00am. I got turned around and ended up driving south to try and get back to the highway, which was actually north from where I dropped him off. The days of no GPS. Mental autopilot took over.

The area where I live was initially a "planned community." Hurricane Hazel was still fresh in people's minds and, as a result, several flood control ditches were dug through the neighbourhoods. For this reason we don't really have flooding, though the flood control ditches and creeks that run through them have been allowed to go back to a more natural state, over the last 10-15 years.

TIL Cheech is not Cheech Marin’s real name. It’s a nickname. When he was a newborn and fresh from the hospital an uncle said he looked like a chicharron, a fried pork rind. His real first name is Richard. Reading his autobiography. Dude has lived a fascinating life.

Im reading this and I have no clue of direction. I think its a Buffalo thing, you ask for directions, go 3 blocks until you hit a Timmy Hos with an Arbys, make a thataway, Now if you hit the Arbys without the Timmy Hos, you want to go the other way...a few blocks, you've gone too far
