Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

It's got the shiny, but Naboo ships are also defined by smooth blended curves and very few straight lines. This one was all flat panels.

With its vectored aft jets, if anything it has hints of Mandalorian design features.
I did say my observation was out there. :P

We will have to wait and see if it comes up further, or if the heritage of the Onyx Cinder remains a mystery,

Cheers :)

Oh, and just one other thought at the moment. It has been 30 years in universe since we have seen an original Naboo starship (Din Djarin's retrofit does not count since it is explicitly pre-Empire). Who knows what changes in Naboo design principles took place after the fall of the Republic and Rise of the Empire.

Cheers :)

Or to fully conceal a much more high performance ship, that might have been readily recognizable by authorities. Greeblies for the win.
There is a bit in Han Solo at Stars End where the Millennium Falcon is disguised within the shell of a larger freighter, which is blasted off for combat.

Did you notice the additional port and starboard turrets?

Offbeat theory: The real reason SM-33 said to never, ever use the hull destruction sequencer is that he's the one who has to put all the bits back on afterwards to re-disguise the ship when needed.
While likely true (I mean, only SM-33 seems to do any maintenance on the ship), I think it is more than that.

I know you are likely joking overall, but there is some truth there as well. I suspect the old captain only trusted SM-33 to do the job to maintain secrecy (since mind wipes and memory blocks are a thing with droids).

In fact, now that you have made me reflect on it, did SM-33 perhaps mess up the hologram of the captain slightly? He was the one to play it for them all. Sure, the equipment was old, but was it that old and decrepit to fritz as much as it did? All the traps and everything else in the vault were working perfectly after all the time sitting there (we saw the laser trap, the reverse gravity trap, etc.), so perhaps there is more afoot?

Cheers :)

Except I am pretty sure the Onyx Cinder is also pre-Empire and had been on At Attin for a long time.

A fair amount of time certainly, long enough to have become overgrown and long enough for its captain's lair to have been turned into a spa destination. But not so long that the captain's legend has faded into obscurity - there wasn't a pirate in the room who didn't know every word of the rhyme that Jod was quoting.

Given where the timeline is at the moment, that could place it anywhere from pre-empire up to around the time of the original trilogy.

If our dread pirate is the supervisor/one of the kid’s parents, then the ship can’t have been on At Atin for much more than a decade.

The song said he disappeared after finding At Atin, which implies he never left.

Clearly no in the SW universe ever got taught the "STRANGER DANGER!" thing

Because the odd of any random adult being dangerous is actually extremely low. Children who are in need of help would generally do better by asking a random adult rather than trying to do things on their own. Stranger Danger is the opposite of what children are taught in Japan and in most place where children are expected to get to school by themselves by walking or using non-dedicated public transportation at an early age (primary school). And while there are few youngsters in Japan, the cause isn't their massive death rate in the hand of murderous strangers :)

Honestly, At Attin society seems extremely well policed. Hoth is an ice planet, At Attin is an accountant planet. What could ever happen there? It is pretty logical that children would be taught that, in case of a problem happening, they should turn to the nearest person and ask them for help -- which would likely result in a Safety Droid to be summoned. Fern (which is supposed to be the smart one and seems to be the eldest of the children) consistently saying that they should seek out any random adult for help and seeming to thinkk that it's their duty to help children (think of her reaction when Crimson Jack claims the rank of captain?) is probably a reflection of the At Attin upbringing, which I found a nice touch.

What age are they supposed to be, BTW?

They’re in middle school, so around 10–12 would be my guess.

Now that Wim and KB have figured out that the New Republic x-wings belong to the good guys, I wonder if we will see the kids contact the New Republic for help in defending their home world from the pirates.

Is it still safe to assume that Jod will have a change of heart / redemption arc by the end? I can see Wim appealing to his better nature, but it seems like Jod has twisted the Jedi teachings into a selfish, “every man for himself” kind of mantra (which is understandable, if he really is a Jedi survivor).
