I'll have to go with Tyrion Lannister as well. Unlike most of the other people bandied about, Tyrion is not only cool but he does it despite disadvantages that would make Drizzt and Elric sit down and emit angst-filled whines.

Vlad Taltos (the ultimate smartass) is right on his heels though. Silk and the Mouser have nothing on him. He hangs out with some of the most powerful people in his world and gets by - not by power or skill, but by virtue of his immense chutzpah. He's got Attitude.

I second (and third and fourth) the Justicar, Vlad Taltos, and Sethra Lavode. As for Silk from the Eddings novels, yes, he's cool, but he's got nothing on Sparhawk.

i voted "other", because i was thinking of Tyrion Lannister from The Song of Ice and Fire series. He has redefined cool to me.

My second vote would be for Severian the Torturer, from Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun

And if I had to pick one off the list it would definitely be the Grey Mouser. Fritz Leiber was one of the first fantasy authors that I encountered after Tolkien, and the Mouser is the epitome of cool...
