I like homebrew campaigns so it's nice to fill it up with stuff - monsters, booty places to explore (I love a good map). New classes, archetypes and feats means more rules to me and I have a head that likes simple rules and elaborate worlds - I rarely stray far from the core rulebooks when it comes to character creation.

  • Monsters
  • Rule additions
  • Anthology Adventures (like Ghosts of Saltmarsh)

I love the anthology adventures (I think that's what they are called) - the books that contain a number of loosely-connected adventures that can be easily lifted into any setting or campaign. In my opinion, it's the best kind of product WOTC has put out with 5E (not necessarly GoS - just the concept in general).

I run a homewbrew campaign in a homebrew world, so I don't care about Faerun-specific adventure campaigns. I love being able to lift a heist from The Golden Vault on weeks where I don't have to prep.

Monsters
Locations - always need new locations to explore
Backgrounds - especially when they tie in with Rules variants for new areas of gameplay, like Ship Combat rules or the Dragonlance Backgrounds

As a forever GM, I answered Monsters, Magic Items, Rules Variants.

But I'm an "infrequent flyer" when it comes to actually running/consuming 5e these days – schedule means I mostly do online one-shots of other systems or the 5e play-by-post I'm running.

Stand-out 5e (and D&D-adjacent) purchases I've made in the last year were:
  • Dungeon Delver's Guide (a whole lotta stuff, ENPublishing)
  • The Monster Overhaul (monsters+ for OSR/BD&D, Skerples)
  • Mordenkainen's Tome of Marvelous Magic (magic items, MT Black)
  • Epic Destinies (rules variant, Peter Oliver)

Can you tell me about Epic Destinies?

The DIY stuff put out as a zine or PDF with no or bad art and content that’s utterly bonkers, weird, and gonzo. High imagination, low production values, and cheap as hell to buy or straight up free. Or, if it’s a book, black and white art with stitch binding and ribbons. Aka standard OSR stuff.
