User Name and Avatars: Origin Stories

TheHand

Adventurer
I’m more of a lurker than a regular poster, but why not…
Name: Way back in the days of AD&D 1e, The Hand was the moniker of a fighter/thief elf I created for play in the Temple of Elemental Evil. Not only did he survive the adventure, but he was the first character I created a backstory for and role played.

I don’t play the character often but I have managed to play a version of him in every edition of D&D since.

When I signed up for Enworld back in 2010 it seemed like a good choice.

Avatar: Years ago I took various fantasy art pictures I found online, mashed pieces of them together in photoshop and recolored them to use for a 3rd edition (? I think ?) version of The Hand.

I saw it on Netflix, but now it's on Prime. I swear, shows are like musical chairs these days with which streaming services offer them.
I did a quick search for it and the first place it came up was YouTube so I turned off my PC, found it on my TV, turned out the lights...and it was just the trailer. I watched about 30 seconds of the Modern Marvels on Brewing that came next before I passed out. Ironically, I have Prime and subscribed to Netflix this month to watch the new Beverly Hills Cop, but yeah, I don't generally subscribe to any streaming services because I have a hard time finding anything to watch. Every single time I have had a subscription to Paramount, Disney, Netflix, MAX, Showtime, etc. I have never once searched and found for any older movie I randomly decided I wanted to watch and found it. It always comes up unavailable or available to buy or rent. This may be my shot a redemption.

Havent gotten into SNW yet. The episodic nature is sort of a turn off to me. Im sure ill try it out eventually.
That's one of the reasons I really like it. It goes back to the feel of the old series. If it makes a difference, there are things you learn that come into play in later episodes, so there are different characters stories going on that carry over through multiple episodes. It's not purely episodic like the old series and next generation were.

I don't believe in the no-win scenario

Yeah, I stayed away from DISCO for a long time becasue nobody ever talked about it. I hear a lot about SNW, so thats a good sign. I think for me its more ive just not been in the right mood for trek. I want more Expanse.
