D&D (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Sorcerer"

No comments about the metamagic changes, other than that there were changes.

Nice replacement in Draconic Sorcerer's capstone, getting a dragon companion (summon dragon for free 1/day, no concentration) instead of Draconic Presence.

Everyone gets bonus spells (though Wild Magic's table is their "bonus spell" table).

The picture of the elf sorcerer with the teal shirt and lightning in the background is wigging me out. Double biceps on the left arm look like bad AI art with extra fingers.

Oh, and the mods were constantly deleting comments in the chat that had anything to do with the ranger (ie: all the complaints about ranger).

No mention of reducing the time the Dragon can stay to 1 minute, so you can use Extend Spell to double it's time out to 2 hours.

As they should. The video is about a different class. There are plenty of places to talk about the Ranger, including in the Ranger video that is still up on their YouTube page.

The Ranger discourse is out of control as it is and needs to stop dominating every part of the revision discussions.

Agreed, it's not nearly as bad as they make it out to be and we need full details to properly gage it anyways.

Innate Sorcery: bonus action (last 1 minute, 2/long rest per last UA)
*+1 DC
*advantage on spell attacks.
*level 7: use 2 metamagic on the same spell.
*level 20: one free metamagic per turn.

Metamagic rebalanced

level 5: Sorcerer Restoration: get extra sorcery points back... somehow.

Level 7: Sorcerer Incarnate: spend SP (2 in UA) to recharge Innate Sorcery

Seems identical to UA7.

‐---------

All subclasses get bonus known spells, except wild magic, which gets random spells from the surge table.

Aberrant, no notable changes

Clockwork, no notable changes.

Dragon: extra dragon spells.
Level 6: Resistance doesn't take SP
level 14: Flight is faster, but limited (per day?)
Level 18: cast Summon Dragon for free without concentration , 1/day.

Wild Magic
Table has more options, mostly positive, and triggers more often. No longer DM dependant.
Easier to get tides of chaos (and thus more surges).
Level 18: 1/day chose any wild magic surge (except the last row)

They certainly talked up the new and improved Wild Surge table. I don't know if they've entirely sold me on wanting to play a Wild Sorcerer, but it's enough that I'll give it a serious look over when I get the book.
I know a couple people who really love the Wild Magic sorcerer, so I don't mind that they spend time on that. Even if I don't care for it, some people do.

Heh. The Ranger Reveal thread in this forum has almost 1000 posts, while the second highest is paladin at a little over 400, and then all the rest drop to the 200's or less. It's definitely a hot topic.

-Sorcerer Rage! remains
-The Draconic Sorcerer gets a list of bonus spells
-Wild Mage doesn't seem to get one, instead "it's the wild surge table" that's their bonus spells
-The Draconic Sorcerer strangely enough looks like Manny Jacinto (like he did in The Acolyte) but with blue hair
-I like how the Dwarven Clockwork Sorcerer looks like too
-The Wild Magic table is greatly expanded, though I hope they keep the summon Flumph option

You can cast Haste on your Extended Spell Dragon Companion.

Anyways anyone else notice when listing Arcane casting classes Bard wasn't mentioned? Hint?

Doesn't say anything, I think it's still Bards get their own spell list. Because with the pick a list option, I expressed a lot of disappointment in that if I wanted Illusion and Enchantment spells, I'd lose access to important spells like Cure Wounds and Healing Word.

I think it would have been cool if some of the sorcerer features from the early 5e playtests would have come back.

I think that I like the improvements, but it's hard to tell. I'm not entirely sure what the sorcerer's identity is supposed to be when standing beside both the warlock and the wizard.
