Spreading holiday cheer.
Hasbro just got done firing a bunch of people and is broke. What do you guys want? Just be thankful you are even getting a new (half) edition maybe sometime this year.

This comes down to a lack of desire, not resources.
It would not be impossible that the marketing people do know what they're doing, but they report to someone who doesn't value marketing and thwarts them, but isn't able to zero out the department. I think a lot of us have seen this dynamic happen in their workplaces. They did fire bunch of people. But, looking at their WoTC marketing team and how abysmally bad they are are marketing to general public, they should probably can whole marketing department.
Where is the setting? A reboot of Greyhawk? Or a real FR setting? Either with an actual map?
I mean, nobody is obligated to keep buying new Magic cards either. I still play M:tG every Monday night with my buddies, and I haven't bought so much as a booster pack since Innistrad. My Aether Flash Lock deck from 2004 still beats the stuffing out of whatever newfangled Adapt or Riot mechanics my buddies try to roll out.Let's be honest. WoTC has one golden goose. MtG. It is literaly their money printer. We jokingly call it paper cocaine ( as it's cheaper to be cocaine addict than MtG addict). TTRPGs are at their core, cheap hobby. Very cheap hobby. If you fork out 200e for core rulebook box set, you are good to go. No need to buy anything else, ever. And I really think that their marketing and sales people struggle how to better monetize D&D.
