Today is International GM's Day! GM’s Day was born on EN World in December 2002. Originally a simple messageboard post by EN World member Spunkrat, the idea quickly gained popularity, championed by Mark Clover of Creative Mountain Games and, of course, EN World itself. Marth 4th is also the anniversary of the sad 2008 passing of Dungeons & Dragons co-creator Gary Gygax.GM’s Day is an annual day to show your GM (or DM, or Storyteller, or Referee) how much you appreciate them. Publishers and retail outlets across the world now join in GM’s Day, offering discounts, sales, and other cool stuff. From a single messageboard thread, GM’s Day now includes hundreds of publishers, websites, bloggers, and more! In particular, check out RPGNow/DriveThruRPG’s massive GM’s Day sale. On March 4th, be sure to show some appreciation to your GM – perhaps buy them a gift, offer to pay for the pizza that night, even a simple “thank you”.

Later this year, Sasquatch Game Studios will be releasing the new version of the 1990s Alternity science fiction roleplaying game. It features a brand new system, and is designed by industry veterans Dave Noonan, Richard Baker, and Bill Slavicsek. The creators have kindly sent along a sneak preview of the upcoming game, which I'm excited to share with you right here. Next week, there will be a 50(ish) page free demo/playtest packet you can download, with a short adventure by Dave Noonan, another by Rich Baker, and a brief rules overview. For now, though, take a look at the preview below!

Random Done Right With Metzger's Metamorphica Revised

I won't lie. I have always had mixed feelings about random tables in role-playing games. When they're done well, they can really lighten the load of a GM who needs some quick fill in bits. When they're done poorly, they can result in bits that just don't fit into the flow of a game and brings everything grinding to a halt. Finding that balance between good content, and bad, can be a challenge sometimes, and for every book like the revised edition of The Metamorphica by Johnstone Metzger, there are a hundred lists of "D100 Of X" tables, where X is everything from random soldiers to names for inns to things that can jump out of the bushes at your characters during an overland journey.
New on EONS, the WOIN patreon! Welcome to Tartarus, the greatest space station in the galaxy! Located in The Cauldron, Tartarus is home to 7-million people and aliens. This 12-page document gives an overview of the station, a handful of notable locations and NPCs of note, random encounter tables, and a sample starscraper floor, 323 Maple Grove, with details of the 40 business to be found there and plot hooks to bring it alive.

New Dragon+ (issue 12): The Inspiration Issue

The tomb preview is great. It has a sidebar about possible places to put it, including the 6 original ones Gygax suggested in Greyhawk. Hopefully those who disliked the other 4 books being set in FR can appreciate their attention to explicitly stating it can be anywhere the DM sets his campaign, and giving the history about where it originally appeared.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Traps Revisited

Actually an interesting article. I'm still scanning through it, though. I like the way they discuss the traps, their creation, and countermeasures (something that was missing, I think, from the DMG). Poisoned Tempest is an absolutely inspired and devious trap! I love it!!!

Release (ENN) Cubicle 7 Preview Next Adventures in Middle-Earth Release

Cubicle 7 have released the front cover of Wilderland Adventures, the next release for the Adventures in Middle-Earth 5e game. The book features seven adventures by Gareth Ryder-Hanrahan and Francesco Nepitello which can be played as standalone quests or linked to form an epic campaign. The cover art has been painted by fantasy artist Ralph Horsley. The book was originally published for The One Ring RPG as Tales from Wilderland.
New on EN5ider, the 5th Edition Patreon! Michael McCarthy takes a hard look at Kobolds and reveals the truth about them and their origins - the primal Kobalds. The dog-faced Kobalds differ to Kobolds, as do the Kobaloi, a race of immortal troublemakers. Also included are the Kobold Tunneler, Kobold Poisoner, and information on cobalt, a toxic substance used by Kobolds in blades and spikes for traps. Illustrated by Ellis Goodson.

LEGO Revisits the Dungeon Crawl

Thanks to an upswell in online support, the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired LEGO Idea Dungeon Master reached its goal of 10,000 supporters in just one month and is now on track to become a potential LEGO product. Will it succeed where other D&D brick-themed projects have failed?
