[Trailer] Conan the Barbarian

Movie Conan doesn't have much hope of being RE Howard's Conan. I think that ship sailed out of Hollywood when no one dared touch the sweeping scope of 13 pulpy movies framed out by Oliver Stone. That being said I have loved the original Conan the Barbarian movie with Ahhhnold in it since I was much wee-er than I am now.
So I'll shell out some money to watch this new take on Conan.

*Worse case scenario (25%), it plays out like Prince of Persia.
*Best case (10% chance), it actually feels like we are watching a larger than life version of Queen of the Black Coast (or pick your favorite).
*That just leaves the good chance (65%) we get a sword-n-sorcery pastiche of Chronicles of Riddick

Until August we should all take a moment and enjoy a good Musical:

QFT!!!!!

'He will not cry, I will cry for him!!!'

Good one, let me try...

Subotai: Hey, old man, where did you get this stuff?

Wizard: The dead... the gods are pleased with you, they will watch the battle.

Conan: Are they going to help?

The Wizard: No.

Conan: Well, then tell them to stay out of the way.

A lack of Sam Worthington is a sure-fire way to garantee this movie will be 73% better than Clash of the Titans.

That's unfair. Worthington is a fine actor who was in a crappy movie. It's not his fault that the movie sucked hairy monkey testicles.

Did these guys even READ ANY OF HOWARD'S stories?

It seems to simply lack anything dealing with Howard.

At least the original Conan movies with Arnold had something that could somewhat be relatable to Howard (at least the first one) even if Conan had more similarities with Kull then Conan in many ways.

This one seems more to be simply someone saying...hey we have this barbarian...and we called his name Conan because we want to sell tickets.

Maybe it will be something from Howard's books, like the Black Circle...but the commercial makes it seem otherwise.

Probably will be a Fantasy movie of some quality...not certain if it will actually be a good Conan movie though.

If the trailers are meant to bring in a wider audience and the story then makes that audience enjoy it more (i.e. they use one or more Howard stories to flesh it out), I'll be even more pleased than if it is merely an S&S tale (which I'll probably enjoy anyway).

I think they do this a lot these days...stray from the original "feel" of the book or original movie or whatever, and try to make it appeal to the largest possible audience. It sucks if you are a fan of the original, but at the same time, it is certainly understandable. These guys want to make as much money on their movies as possible.

I mean seriously how many screams, growls, roars, etc. can one place in a trailer "in an attempt to show the raw savegery and adrenaline pumping gratuitous nature of the piece's violent action" before you reduce the emotion you are trying to illicit into a running gag? I personally, began to laugh after seeing Conan, an eliphant, the Villianess, some bald guy with slaves, and entire group of warriors all going "Rawr!" within the span of 15 seconds.
I won't be going into this movie expecting a literary triumph.

I did like the trailer, though as always, the movie may be quite something else.

Here's to hoping the movie is great.
