The D&D Bard itself is feat tree pretending to be a class.

Way I see it?

Mystic -> Celebrant -> communal magic.
So: Cleric, Bard, Druid (without shapeshifting, more Old Ways/Seer)

Wizard -> Mystic -> magic of the "self" ego.
So: Sage, Psion, Magus (includes shapeshifting and self buffing warrior)

that is every class ever in D&D.

bunch of pre-selected feats, gated behind a class for reasons...
No

The D&D Bard is defined by

  1. A basic song buff
  2. Copying other classes
Every other class has some aspect that is upscaled to be a class.

The Bard is just a bad druid with skills.

One day, I hope to actually play DnD.
I totally think there is room for a class who's schtick is shapeshifting; I just don't think it is the druid.

2E did it right: druid was just another specialty priest.
agree with the first half, disagree with the latter, druids are their own thing and deserve much more than just being reduced to 'nature preist'

Don't know about that.
If we talk about FR, I would play cleric of Silvanus and druid of silvanus as the same character.
One can shapeshift other is allowed to wear metal armor

given the assumptions listed, I chose warlock- but I like the bard better. Listing the bard as another nature caster when you already have one leaned me into voting for the arcane option.
