D&D General Shocked how hard it is to get new players now-a-days

For most people, probably not. We have reached a steady state with COVID, where there's little prospect of things changing in the foreseeable future, so any precautions folks are not willing to keep up indefinitely are apt to go by the wayside.
Where I live, I see very few people taking any protective precautions and thats why I asked. I didn't realize there were so many people still not playing in person and many never plan to again.

Same here. Nobody even talks about it any more. To be honest, we did have very light restrictions and even those weren't really enforced back in 20/21. From 22 onward it's like coff never happened.

I'm in a game that's in-person that runs on Sundays at 3pm and I'm considering dropping out. It's a sizeable chunk of time, I need to get to and from the venue (most others playing are in walking distance) and it can run quite late meaning it's straight to bed when I get home. I just don't think I want to spend my Sundays like that any more but it is the day that works for everyone else. It's not that I don't enjoy playing, but I also have other things I need or want to get done. If it was on a week night, I'd probably be fine with the time.

...more "just don't show up after expressing interest"...... gee if I could a 50% show up rate after the first nibble, I would be running nightly. But it could be you have no players in your town that want to play with others at the FLGS

Where I live it’s still common to see masks and public workers are still pretty much universally masking.

It’s the norm here.

In my experience, Flu was much worse for me than COVID
That might be true for many people. That is not true for those people who have long/post covid (as my wife does). So please be careful with such statements.
- I definitely vouch that Flu is more dangerous than it gets credit for
That might also be true. But still way less dangerous than COVID. Although probably those who did not get long COVID already have a lower chance of getting long/post COVID.

I don't know how to be more careful than redundantly stating multiple times in the same sentence that this was only my personal experience. Also COVID hit me fairly hard as well, I was only saying that Flu is more deadly than people realize

Looking for players online is the best way in my experience. Not necessarily to play online, just advertising online.

Facebook/reddit/discord in the below format or similar. There tend to be several lfg groups/communities for any given region

System
Module/adventure
Day/time/frequency/length of sessions
Location
Players needed

Eg
D&D5e
Rime of the Frostmaiden
Tuesdays weekly @ 6.30, finishing by 10
Downstairs at FLGS
Looking for 4-5 players to start RotFM
