Movement was never an action, reaction, or bonus action as a general rule. Some specific rules engaged it, but movement in 5e has been separate from actions. It's also called Movement and Position in the 2014 PHB, so I really don't see any changes there. The organization of the Contents look solid. I like the combat section preceding the Creating a Character.
In the Contents, Ch. 1: "Actions", "Bonus Actions", "Reactions". But no Moves? Any significance?
I wonder if the Move is now understood as part of the Action. (This might make sense since the Action can occur at point during a Move.)
"Movement and Positioning" shows up later in the Combat section, before "Making an Attack".
"Social Interaction" has about 3 pages!
"Vision and Light" and "Hiding" all in one place!
In "Creating a Character", heh, this is an odd place to put "Trinkets"? I am unsure which section describes decisions about the "personality", including Ideals and Bonds: possibly part of "Create Your Character" early on, or "Origin Components" later on?
Where "Mounts and Vehicles" lists separately from "Tools", I wonder if proficiency will relate to them?
2024 removes the list of polytheistic deities from the Appendices? Im glad, this kind of thing is strictly setting dependent − for the DMs Guide worldbuilding if anywhere.
"Material Planes", plural. Positive Fey and Negative Shadow might be "Material"?
"Transitive Planes", plural. Presumably Astral and Ethereal?
I love the fact that there will be a useful expanded Appendix for "Creature Stat Blocks".
Heh, it is amazing how long assumptions ("Move Action") carried over from a previous edition (4e) can linger.Movement was never an action, reaction, or bonus action as a general rule. Some specific rules engaged it, but movement in 5e has been separate from actions. It's also called Movement and Position in the 2014 PHB, so I really don't see any changes there.
That's really not much of a change. The entire Part 2 of the 2014 PHB that dealt with the core rules was 25 pages.Honestly, I am impressed. Doing the core rules in 23 pages including combat. The rest of the book is simply a reference book.
I like that sort of thing, bit in 2014 funding reading suggestions is easy, and they didn't have a lot of spare room.Interesting order. I will have to get used to the new layout. I guess I appreciate the main rules at the beginning. Should be easier to look up than rules in the middle of the book. And no "Appendix N" type list of inspirational reading. Am I the only one who likes lists of books?
Confirmed they are gone from the PHB, which is not surprising since they haven't put them in new Backgrounds since 2020.I am unsure which section describes decisions about the "personality", including Ideals and Bonds: possibly part of "Create Your Character" early on, or "Origin Components" later on?
Confirmed no gods in the book.2024 removes the list of polytheistic deities from the Appendices? Im glad, this kind of thing is strictly setting dependent − for the DMs Guide worldbuilding if anywhere.
I note that Trinkets are located in the Character Creation section of D&D Adventurer Magazine, which also has Species instead of Races. I wonder how much of a stealth preview that magazine content is for the organization of the 2024 books. In "Creating a Character", heh, this is an odd place to put "Trinkets"?
