I very much doubt it: that is a mechanic from Larian's prior games, and a prune example of the sort of thing which computers are excellent at doing that would be tedious busy work in table play.Anyone else hoping the BG chapter of the Forgotten Realms Adventurers Guide Has Rules For Surfaces BG3 Style?
Like Conditions for the ground, basically: so the player can break a casket of ale over a wooden floor, and set the alcohol on fire. Orvset a trap with an oil slick on the cobblestones.I have never played any of Larian's games, including BG3. Could someone please explain to me what these surfaces are?
Ah I see. Thank you.Like Conditions for the ground, basically: so the player can break a casket of ale over a wooden floor, and set the alcohol on fire. Orvset a trap with an oil slick on the cobblestones.
Ah I see. Those sound like they’d come under hazards or traps.
It's the sort of thing that players and DMs will improv off of at the table but not as mathematically as BG3. Hence you may have heard jokes about "barrelmancy" for BG3.Ah I see. Thank you.
Those sound like they’d come under hazards or traps to me.
Yeah a lot of it can and already is just improv. I've had AoE cold damage turn water into ice which created an ice hazard that you could fall on long before BG3 or even DOS did that stuff. Setting oil/grease on fire has been a staple as far back as I can remember, though ironically in this new edition they made the Grease spell non-flammable so the exact opposite of what the OP is hoping to see. It's the sort of thing that players and DMs will improve off of at the table but not as mathematically as BG3.
