Gamescape is an Excellent RPG Store, located in SF proper, and with two other locations further down the peninsula. See http://www.stowlake.com/gamescape/ for info; their old gamescape.com site is apparently down :-(

I'm also partial to good record stores, myself, and Amoeba Records has two locations: one in SF that I haven't visited yet, and one in Berkeley, which is good. Their site is at http://www.amoebarecords.com/index2.html, with directions/maps here at http://www.amoebarecords.com/direct-1.html.

The MOMA is a great visit; see it at http://www.sfmoma.com/.

SF has a great convention/visitors bureau site in Union Square, where you can pick up brochures for tons of stuff in the area. You can also visit any of these fine web sites:

I hope these help :D

Amoeba Records on Haight is a great place still. There's only one Gamescape on the Peninsula; it's on El Camino, in Palo Alto. The other one is/was up in San Rafael. I haven't visited that on in almost 7 years, so I'm not sure if it's still around.

If you're into military history, the Jeremiah O'Brien, and the USS Pampanito (SS 383) are both at Pier 45. The latter is a WW2 BALAO class submarine that you can tour daily (self-audio tour.) It's quite fun, and only about 35 min.

Dining... see what everyone else has said. :)

Yup - the San Rafael Gamescape is still there (and has the best Used Stuff section of the three). My favorite game store in the area is Gator Games in San Mateo, though.

Enjoy your trip, Mr. and Mrs. Teflon Billy!

A quick note about visiting places in San Francisco. Like pretty much any major city, after dark things can get interesting. Depending on where you are this can be a good thing. I would highly recommend against visting Coit tower after dark. The company can be, interesting. Dangerous. But interesting.

Oh, and if you want a really nice drive might I recomend a trip down the Pennisula via Skyline Blvd. This road runs along the Santa Cruz mountains and you can see both the Pacific and the Bay from points along it. Its a great drive. Just take Highway 280 from the city south to Highway 92. A quick jog west will take you to the 35 and that is Skyline follow it south for a great drive. It will put you out onto Summit Rd. Which will lead to Highway 17. This seems complicated but just get a good map and your there. Plus once you get to 17 your just a short trip from Santa Cruz so you could make a day of it.

Just more thoughts.

Massawa rocks! SF is a food city, so go for yours.

Down Haight street from Massawa (towards Golden Gate park) is Ameoba records. You should go there.

At the intersection between Massawa and Ameoba is Ploi Two, which is fine, fine Thai, at very reasonable prices.

South of Market is where a lot of clubs jump off . . .

Go into a music store and get "The Flyer". It's the shiznit. A booklet that covers every hip-hop/electronic club and music event in the city for that month, and it's free.

Yes...things can get VERY interesting at night in ...The City.

Even before LARP games took off there were 'Vampire' clans roaming the streets at night. My sister (ages ago when she was living in a closet in Noe Valley) had early morning 'visitor'-friends who were trying to escape the sunrise! ;)

see if you can spot 'em.
