D&D 5E Banishment- horse and rider

albatrossen

First Post
If Banishment is cast on a horse with a horseman on its back, will both be banished or will the rider fall to the ground? to me it is quite clear that the horseman will fall to the ground, but I have been mistaken before :)

Legend
The first sentence specifies ONE CREATURE for a normal (4th level) casting. You could get both if you wanted to target both and used a 5th or higher level slot.

Legend
As a general rule, spells do not count living creatures as carried equipment; you can't put the halfling on your shoulders, cast invisibility, and have it cover both of you. Applying this principle to banishment, the horse would vanish and the rider would fall.

(Note that this means misty step can be used to get rid of lice.)
