Since no one in this thread suggested that the physical copies should be free, I'm not sure whom you're complaining about and who has lost the right to be heard.
I'm excited about the 2nd edition, but wow, is their playtest expensive! $48 for the softcover playtest rulebook and $25 for the first playtest adventure. And it's not a complete ruleset. You also need the Pathfinder Core books. I hope they'll release it online for free.
I think we might be on the same page as far as the worth of boycotting all things 5e, but we have a disagreement about how branding works. The analogy you use is fitting. Star Wars Monopoly is still Monopoly because it still has the name “Monopoly.” If Lucasfilms decided to create their own game...

The only relevant arguments against the OP are that a) nobody is avoiding buying 5e due to their feelings about Hasbro, and b) supporting any kind of 5e supports the whole ecosystem of 5e, and therefore...

I think they need to come out with a basic version of the game. I guess that's what the starter sets are for, but I'd like to see a dedicated rulebook for beginners.
I fear this new version, with its extra feat at 1st level and the various weapon properties, will turn off new gamers with the...
