The future is hard to predict, especially when it hasn't happened yet. I think it will impact some tables in how they play and some will implement house rules that match those in the game. However I don't really see that as much different than what we have now, different tables vary quite widely on the style of game they run and the house rules they use. So I voted no.

So Larian is braver that WotC. Got it.
Literally everyone is. WotC can’t afford to be brave.
I voted no. WotC is change adverse. Given the success of the game, I understand that. Assuming we aren't talking ten years down the line....
I’d say it’s that they’re risk adverse more than change adverse as the industry leader*. Playing it safe keeps them in the lead. Risk might involve loss.

* Is leader even the right word here for the kind of dominance WotC has? Clearly not a literal monopoly, but they’re effectively a monopoly. Like Amazon.

Pedantic replies are the best replies.

I certainly hope spell durations get increased in the tabletop game. There's been a very heavy trend towards magic lasting shorter and shorter since AD&D, to the point where there are VERY few spells that can permanently alter the world or create lasting things anymore. Even little things like Mage Armor lasting until your next long rest is a quality of life improvement over 8 hours.

Did BG1 & 2 (and I guess the Icewind Dale games) have any impact on 2e? I know it came out at the tail end of 2e. Did Neverwinter Nights impact 3e?

How is this relevant? The games and distribution models and numbers of players are all completely different.
