D&D 5E WHOH - Fighters get 4 attacks. Barb/Paladin gets 2 and all else gets 1???

Please tell me i'm missing something. Fighters are the only ones who get extra attacks beyond 5th level? Wizards, Clerics, Rogues will never have more than one attack? Is this right?

Also, it appears the Paladin and Barbarian get extra attacks at 5 but not at 11 or 20? This seems shocking.

I guess multi-classing for 5 levels into those can get a second attack but i guess it seems rough for a lot of concepts?

Is it shocking because it's being compared to 3e's iterative attacks? Fighters were made less "linear" by giving them more attacks than other classes, making them the best "fighter" (go figure), rather than just giving them more feats (which doesn't necessarily make them a better fighter).

They all scale in different ways typically after 10th. I'd say it makes it more interesting that way. If I remember correctly fighters got the most attacks in 1e too

Fighters get extra attacks, rangers will get multiple attacks or their beast will attack, paladins get improved divine smite, rogues get sneak etc

I think it is assumed that at higher levels the spellcasters will have plenty of stuff to do without worrying about physical attacks that much but even clerics get little damage boosts

Higher level paladins get automatic extra radiant damage on all their attacks plus a variety of smite spells and damaging channel divinity options. They are not going to have any trouble keeping up with the damage of a fighter.

Fighters get attacks, Barbarians get damage, and Paladins can heal.

While this is true, other classes also get other abilities.

For example, the 11th level Paladin has Improved Divine Smite (let alone Divine Smite). So he has fewer attacks, but they can do more damage. He can cast Thunderous Smite which again does substantially more damage.

He can heal. He can put up protections. He has an aura for a saving throw bonus.

Pros and Cons.

It's likely that PCs will rarely get in more than a half dozen encounters on any given adventuring day at 11th level. So even if the Paladin burns through two abilities/spells per encounter, he'll still sometimes still have more options than the Fighter (although the Battle Master and the Eldritch Knight do have quite a few options as well).

The Fighter is like the Hulk (fewer options, but probably does more damage than anyone else). The Paladin is like Thor (a lot more options, and still does a lot of damage).

Alternatively, the 11th level Wizard can throw out a 8D6 to 11D6 Fireball that will pretty much partially devastate the field, possibly doing as much damage in a single action as the Fighter might do in an entire encounter (just not all to one foe).

Pros and Cons.

Up until 19th fighters have 3 attacks, and barbs/paladins 2, and barbs get rage /paladin smite, I dont think their damage is too far apart for most of the game. But yeah at 20th the fighter will be doing crazy damage (but who isnt doing crazy things at 20th)?
