What videogames are you playing in 2025?

Making this thread because, AFAIK, no-one has made it yet, despite people threatening to! Please feel free to post screenshots, boast about achievements you're pleased with, and show us what you're playing or games you think are cool or whatever!

Personally over the last couple of weeks, I've been playing a lot of Avowed, the latest Obsdian game, which has its own thread. It's been really good, playing incredibly well despite a mediocre framerate.

I particularly love the writing, because whoever wrote it understood the urge to correct NPCs and misapprehensions and so on, and to actually nuance your position on issues. And NPCs are well-written enough that they often respond in good ways, even if they don't agree. Like, I don't mindlessly have to "pick a side", I can point out I'm working for Y but don't agree with X. You can often also ask pretty good questions, and fight people who need to be fighted! None of which is really true in some other RPGs, despite being very well-written overall (Cyberpunk for example - you often really good, really well voice-acted responses in that - Avowed is a silent protag game - but you rarely have a lot of choice/nuance). I think being silent protagonist gave them more flexibility here.

The most amazing game I played this year, though, was Caves of Qud, which I'll have to talk about some other time.

Civ VII. It needs some work (a lot of work, but kid and I still like).

I’ve heard great good things about choices and actions in Avowed. Meaning that they matter, in more interesting ways than just forks. Will never forget the amount of time I spent agonizing over a couple choices in Skyrim only to discover did not matter. Ever since, really my standard for CRPGs, decisions/actions having an impact more interesting than being a story limiting fork/different ending either or.

I just finished replaying all of the Arkham Batman games, well, three of them. I couldn't get Arkham Asylum to run on my new computer, but I didn't exactly try very hard. Just last month I finished playing Resident Evil: Bio Hazard which I quite enjoyed.

Avowed is definitely taking up my free time (what little there is) right now.

I’m interested in hearing your thoughts on Caves of Qud. I purchased it after hearing good things but never got around to playing it. Same story with Rimworld.

I was very excited by the surprise Monster Train 2 demo, which is very smartly taking the existing formula and simply dropping in completely refreshed content.

I played quite a bit of Total War: Warhammer I this year, but I stopped for now. Also played a chunk of Slay The Spire until it ticked me off too much. And a second go at Slime Rancher. Put another 10+ hours into Frostpunk most recently but I ended up uninstalling it again. I have actually put on a tonne of weight in the last few weeks because I have not really been playing games as much.

A lot of what I might otherwise fall back on I do not want to because of real world politics or because I am waiting for an update or DLC to go on sale and I do not want to get into in again before then. The Long Dark, Terraria, and Stellaris fall into these two categories. And I think the joysticks on my controller are Borked, so that cuts down on some of my options too.

I’m very busy running Traveller and Battletech but I do want to get to some games. Mechwarrior 5 had a clan expansion back in the fall not checked it out yet. Now, don’t shoot me but I haven’t got to Bsldurs Gate 3 yet.

Gosh, not much. I’ve started Tales of Graces on the Switch - I got about halfway on the PS3 a few years ago and since I can’t access that right now I’m happy to have a chance to complete another Tales game.

Also got new joycons for the Switch so I stand a chance of playing my King of Fighters games (currently playing 2002) since the original joycons are useless for fighting games.

Combination of Stellaris, Civilization 3, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and BG3.

Stellaris democratic crusaders/trader types or space egalitarian/tech. SMAC growing mind worms as militant space hippies. BG3 all warlock party. Civ 3 whatever random civ it spits out.
