I'm really going to have to go with "Principles of Agribusiness-Successful Sheep Ranching Volume 4: Ideal Feed Mixtures, Seasonal". Some riveting filmmaking there.

I know its not a movie but you should have included Country Calender re-runs and various All Black Dvd's.

Peter Jacksons earlier (and sick, twisted, depraved) work should be listed too, e.g Braindead and Meet the Feebles etc

And you call yourself a kiwi... :p

Well yes I was going to add Braindead, Frighteners, Meet the Feebles, Mulholand Falls, Once Wre Warriors, The Navigator etc but decided to stick to the movies made since 2000 (otherwise we would need apoll of 1000 items to fit in all the great and wonderful movies coming out of NZ)

And yes Country Calender and The Dog Show are some of the best productions NZ has to offer but I decided to limit this to Movies only (afterall we in Godzone are so damn talented:))

Again apologies

While Lord of the Rings is one of my favourite films, there are two others that leap to mind, one before it, one after it:

Before: Once Were Warriors
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110729/
This is all about "New Zealand's dirty little secret", the quashing down of the Maori culture, something that continues to this day. Even while promoting the imagery of the Maori for the sake of tourism, the peoples and the culture has been all but obliterated. Brilliant, dangerous, breathtaking film.

After: Heavenly Creatures
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110005/
(and both of these came out the same year!)
Peter Jackson's other truly brilliant film, about two girls who kill one of their mothers. The film is based on a true incident and most of the voiceovers are drawn from the letters and diaries of the girls. Bizarre, chilling, and surrealistic, it is utterly amazing.

(to be serious for a moment, then back to my usual stupidity)

I had forgotten about that movie. What an absolutely great and heartbreaking film. It is well worth the time it takes to seek out and watch. I add my endorsement (FWIW) as well.

Had to vote for LotR, of course, but I'm more looking forward to March.

My wife and I (married last September, and she's a Kiwi) are taking our honeymoon in New Zealand. Will be landing in Wellington (where her mother lives) and will be making our way up to Lake Taupo (sp?) where her father lives, and then continuing on north. Can't wait to see the country.

James
