Werewolf Teeth Question

A were-tooth-golem? Um scary. Each full-moon the teeth come alive and bite people turning them into wer-tooth golems. Their only nemeses: The Tooth Fairy and Dentists.

How about a necklace of teeth, where each tooth has a different power... wisdom tooth, sweet tooth, eye tooth, baby tooth, etc

*blink*

You know werewolf teeth aren't like LEGOS, right? They're built as major weapons, tough enough to rend flesh and crush bones. They don't just pop out easily.

So, in a world without modern dental tools, surgical hygiene, or anesthetics, you're going to stick your hands into the mouth of a still-living werewolf for the hours-long process of extracting teeth? I'm pretty sure that voids the warranty on the "helpless" condition.

Welcome to howling in the night when the wolfbane blooms, and the autumn moon is bright...

In one episode of BTVS, there was a guy who hunted werewolves, was after Oz, and wore a necklace of werewolf teeth.

But, that's really the only way you can get werewolf teeth is to pull them before it dies, assuming it transforms into a human afterward.

An enterprising character can find ways of extracting them safely.

With a specially designed magic spell, sure.

My wife is a veterinarian. She pulls teeth on animals. With proper modern tools, and an anesthetized patient, it can take an hour to pull a tooth. If they aren't rotten, those things are in *solid*. Sure, she's trying to not hurt the beast....

But if you're going to break open it's head to take them out, your patient is apt to bleed out and die, and thus ruin the experiment. And, in games where it matters, I hope you're not expecting to keep a Good alignment through that brutal treatment of a being that can feel pain. Just sayin'.

That PC needs a hard slapping ;)

ON THE BACK! :D

Thats either a hilarious joke, or a GREAT idea-from which 'hilarity' will ensue. Werewolf ubermensch...'protecting' the world from
'evil' and sewing the seeds of what will become most fit and most ancient bloodlines.

So, is it yet time for that age old Ghostbusters comic question, now in a brand new form?

If a string of werewolf teeth comes in contact with a string of vampire teeth, what happens? And who will survive the armageddon of vampwolf and werepire teeth?

:D

I think that "trying not to hurt the beast" is a really big part of this. The lower teeth could easily be taken by simply breaking/cutting off the jaw, and taking the teeth out at your leisure. The upper teeth could probably be loosened with an aptly wielded hammer (although damage to the teeth may be an issue). Death would be an eventual result, but not necessarily immediate.

To the direct question: werewolf parts would be a great ingredient for a lot of fun things. I have always found crafting in D+D to be kind of dry (though I also think that's a good thing from a rules standpoint). If you have a player that really wants to invest in craft skills so they can get creative with the animal parts, work with them to make it fun. The possibility of poisons, antidotes, and custom magic items is nearly limitless. OTOH, it's really important to make sure the player invests their character properly to do this; you can't just let everyone start to take trophies from fallen foes and turn them into super weapons. That would completely unbalance monsters and equipment.

Do remember that the werewolf has to survive the entire procedure - the teeth have to be out before it is dead. So "at your leisure" is really "how long does it take for the beast to bleed out from the arteries you rip open taking off that jaw".

D&D doesn't have good general rules for removing body parts of still-living creatures. As a GM, I'd probably call it equivalent to a coup de grace (it is helpless, and what you're trying to do is major damage to his body). So, the beast's survival is highly questionable.

My ruling is usually that they'd revert to human shape teeth even if they were taken out while the werewolf was still alive. I just like that classic "gotcha" werewolf story model -- you know, where the guy cuts off the wolf's paw, bundles it up, and then unwraps it later to find it's a human hand? (And then finds out that his wife is now missing a hand... and has to kill his own wife...) But if trophy-hunting is the more important trope, then there you have it.
