D&D 5E Wave Echo Cave map

I think I've decided to tack on a new ending to Lost Mine of Phandelver. Mostly because I want to explore a little more into 5th level sandbox with 5e. And also because i have this giant map I made of the 7 Pillar Hall from Thunderspire Labyrinth that didn't get much use. I still have it packed away somewhere.

My plan is to have the Black Spider have a one-time get-away portal to reach it. The Hall will be run by a beholder named Xezzlomaxx. Underground shenanigans will then ensue. I'm ending the campaign after this scenario, but i was going to make Black Spider just a pawn of the Beholder.

I truncated the Wave Echo Cave section of our 5E Starter Set playthrough experience, essentially cutting off the back 30% and making some other adjustments, but kept the front 70% at full scale. I added some cave-ins to cut off the unused portions. I also added five foot square lines to keep things easier for the players and myself at the table.

I also used Mike Schley's map/art site to get the high res map and blew it up but also switched it to greyscale, then chopped it up and put it on a handful of 2' x 2' black foamboard squares for transport. I also went with the fog of war using loose cardstock pages to keep stuff covered.

How funny. I was going through the list of my old threads and found this one for Wave Echo Cave that I myself posted 5 years ago when first starting 5e. My new group is on the verge of reaching Wave Echo again, and I have that same map from five years ago! I'm changing some things up, so it won't be the same experience from before, but it should be interesting to see the changes from the original play-through to the new one.
