D&D 5E Titles for Classes by level

Is there a good list somewhere of title for classes by level (or level range)? Like 1-3 Apprentice 4-6, Adept, etc?

Specifically, I'm looking for titles for wizards, but clerics would be helpful as well. Thanks

Yea, I found that as well, but the wizard titles no longer make sense considering we have schools of magic that cover those titles (not based upon rank) and we also have sorcerer and warlock classes now.

Actually I think I came up with something. I looked at the wizards spell progression and every level they get a new level spell slot, I assigned a title. So here we go...

1-2 Novice
3-4 Apprentice
5-6 Journeyman
7-8 Adept
9-10 Magus
11-12 High Magus
13-14 Master
15-16 Grandmaster
17-20 Archmage

I'm totally on board with this approach. After all, it make sense that Wizards would know the relative power levels of spells (it takes a greater degree of skill to cast fireball than it does to cast light, for example). And just like levels of, say, mathematics in our schools, they would know the general skill level of someone who could cast a given spell, based on the relative power levels. And just like in our schools, the wizards can be classified into groups based on their knowledge and proficiency.

I'm in.

Thanks for the kind words...I attempted one for Clerics as well...let me know what you think

Acolyte
Oblate

Priest
Archpriest
Prelate
Hierarch

For some reason I'm less enamored of this one. Maybe because being a cleric seems less a matter of study and more a matter of endurance to me. I don't know.

Conceptually, it follows the same "title for each new spell level" idea of the wizard one, so it makes as much sense from that direction.

Titles are something an organization creates to separate the tiers of responsibility and privilege. What are the organizations these classes belong to, and what are those organization's interested in promoting? Simply earning levels, which quite often is done without furthering the goals of an organization at all, shouldn't be the source of new titles. Furthering the goals of the organization should.

For a Wizard's group, furthering the collection of magical knowledge, increasing magical skill, and bringing prestige to the organization should be worthwhile goals. While increasing skill is closely tied to level, it's only one dimension of the organization -- it shouldn't be enough by itself to obtain the highest levels of prestige.

For Cleric groups, it's the furtherance of the church's power and prestige and the furthering the goals of the patron god that count. Skill is probably lower on their concern charts, which is why a similar structure for titles seems more out of tune than that for wizards.

First off, good job. I think you've met your goal.

Secondly, I think you could be a bit more evocative. Journeyman is a bit too tradesman for my tastes.
1-2 Novice
3-4 Apprentice
5-6 Adept
7-8 Mage (or Magus)
9-10 High Mage (or High Magus)
11-12 Master Mage (or Master Magus, or simply Master)
13-14 Magister
15-16 High Magister
17-20 Archmage (or Archmagus)

Something like this hints at tiers: 1-6 is first tier, 7-12 is second tier (mage or magus), and 13-20 is third tier (magister). YMMV, FWIW, etc.

Titles work so long as the characters belong to, return to, and further the ends of, an organisation that bestows them.

Adventurers are by their nature peripatetic - the return to base to demonstrate the skill/power increases gained via the XP mechanic would need to be a regular thing.

It works nicely for Wizards' schools and Cleric's churches; also for Thieves' Guilds (assuming they are willing to be registered...and if not, adventure hooks); Bards' colleges; Monks and Paladins (see Clerics), Druids (could be a regular 'moot' of the Circle); a certain type of very formalised military fighter, too perhaps; less so for Sorcerers and Warlocks, Barbarians, and Rangers (Rangers could be affiliated to a Druid moot perhaps).

Titles could be bestowed by an organisation such as the Harpers, though they have their own titles which are based on 'what have you done for us' rather than XP accumulation.

Having titles granted would mean a formal return to the awarding body which feels like an RP opportunity rather than a hand waved downtime activity. So for me, it lends itself more to the 'tier' system so that it is a less common, less mundane, more of a big deal thing every, what, 4 levels or so til level 12.

Further title advancement entirely down to engaging in old school 'name level' activity - building a keep/church/tower etc...

So, eg:
Wizards: Apprentice - School name eg Evoker, Enchanter, Seer - Mage - Magus (I love Magister but feel it's head of the order territory)
Clerics: Acolyte - Priest - then High Priest then something deity-specific eg Stormbringer, Great Skull, whatever)
Rogues: Prentice - Brother/Sister - Master - Grandmaster

Not great I know
