The Simpsons Movie (Spoilers)

So...I went and saw it today, with a mix of high hopes and a ton of fears. I don't hate the newer stuff like some do, but the show is definitely missing some of the old charm it used to have.

Bringing back the writers from those old days was perfect. The movie felt like a nice, long episode from those early days and it was a ton of fun. The jokes were great, and there were so many in-jokes that it made it even better for a longtime fan like me.

Some of the best episodes are the Marge/Homer focused ones, and I, for some reason, didn't expect the movie to follow that route. I expected a complete Homer focus, but was really surprised that they had a ton of Marge stuff...and it was all good. Arguably one of the best Marge/Homer 'episodes' made.

And, of course, a moment after the credits that we've been waiting for for eighteen years now!

[sblock]Maggie's first (real) word!![/sblock]

Er...

She said "daddy" in the episode "Lisa's first word", quite a few years ago. Her voice was done by Elizabeth Taylor. [/sblock]

[sblock]Gah, you're right. I always think of the James Earl Jones one from one of the old Treehouse of Horror.

Though, technically, she spoke this word in front of the family. So its the first time they've HEARD her speak. Counts for me. :p[/sblock]

I enjoyed it. I was a bit surprised to see Bart start to like Flanders -- briefly.

BTW, what did Maggie say? I don't remember that part.

[sblock]It was during the credits, after the Burns scene and a little ways into it. They do an MST3K style commentary on the credits, then get up and leave, and as they go, Maggie turns and says "Sequel?"[/sblock]

I still like the beginning with [sblock]Green Day where they sing the Simpsons Theme Song, "Da Da Da Da Da Da Da."

Another question: [sblock]When Lisa and Collin are separated by the dome, he write musical notes on the dome. Are those real? Does it spell out anything noteworthy? [/sblock]

I left right at the credit. Opps! Thanks!

Went today and had a blast. I was glad to see it very focused on the family and on Springfield itself. The pace was nice and brisk, and the tone felt both irreverent and yet like a love note to the fans. Good stuff.
