The Night Angel Trilogy

Just wondering if anyone is reading or has read The Night Angel trilogy, by Brent Weeks (The Way of Shadows, Shadow's Edge, Beyond the Shadows). Just finished the second book and I'm absolutely in love with the series.

For the benefit of those who haven't heard of it, the main character is an orphan named Azoth. He grows up in a slummy area known as The Warrens, run by a powerful mafia called the Sa'kage. Most of the children in the Warrens are orphans, unwanted bastards born to criminals and prostitutes, and they band together in gangs called guilds, until they're old enough to join the sa'kage, if they're lucky enough to survive that long.

Azoth ends up apprenticed to the greatest assassin in the city, and the first book is basically all about Azoth's upbringing, motivation, and training.

A word of warning, the material, particularly in the first few chapters of the book where the setting and motivations are being established, is extremely dark and graphic. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who's squeamish, and definitely keep it away from children.

I read this series about a year ago, I think it was, and really enjoyed it. Not as good as The Lies of Locke Lamora or The Name of the Wind, which I read around the same time, but very enjoyable and original nonetheless. It kept surprising me, right up to the very last page.

I read it and really enjoyed it, although like Dioltach I though Locke Lamora was better.

Of course the Night Angel trilogy has the advantage of being complete, as opposed to the Gentlemen Bastards series which seems to be in some kind of limbo since Republic of Thieves was originally slated to come out back in February, but there is still no date.

[edit] Hmm, finally found some info on Scott Lynch's blog. Seems he's battling depression and panic attacks. I guess that would affect one's ability to write.

I haven't read it, but I saw someone on the bus the other day reading it and the person said it was a good book. Thinking about checking it out. This thread might make me a little more interested in that now. :)

I enjoyed the first book of the trilogy but didn't really think the second and third were that great.

The Republic of Thieves is set for Spring 2011. It's apparently been delivered.
