D&D (2024) The new warlock (Packet 7)

When UA 5 came out you were quite insistent that short rest recovery of class’ primary was completely off the table, and that I was being obtuse in saying that they had made no such claim in the accompanying video. I brought the matter back up when they mentioned in the UA 5 feedback video that pact magic would be returning, and you still insisted that the returning version of pact magic would use some other recovery mechanism than short rest, and said you would apologize for berating me about it earlier if it did turn out to be short rest based. Now not only are pact magic and monk discipline points short rest based, but Crawford explicitly said in the UA 7 video that they’re trying to give all classes more reasons to want to short rest.

I’ll dig the receipts back up if you want.
Ha right, no receipts necessary you're absolutely correct. I apologize. You were quite right and I was terribly wrong. They not only returned to the short rest mechanic for Warlock and Monk, but are adding more short rest elements to other classes to make short rests more appealing for the entire party to engage in. Which is the exact opposite direction I really thought they were going with. And I was wrong, while you definitely saw the direction they were going in, in ways I just didn't spot. So yes, sorry for being so forceful in my wrongness. Mea culpa.

It technically requires the ability to not sleep which there are a few species (warforged, reborn, etc) that do that.
I thought it always required back to back rests, which I think are still off the table. If you take a short rest, you're now rested. If you immediately take another....you're still rested from the first short rest and didn't rest any more besides a second hour which can contribute to a long rest.

I appreciate it. We’re all good 😌

Curious that Voice of the Chain Master is gone. Any other such surprises? (I know all the "cast spell x using a spell slot" are gone.)
They explained that one in the design notes, they just… accidentally called it favor of the chain master for some reason.

• Favor of the Chain Master has been cut in favor of importing Investment of the Chain Master from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything.

Also, since Gaze of Two Minds works on creatures of any type now, that reproduces half the functionality of Voice of the Chain Master. You do miss out on the ability to speak through your familiar, but since you can cast from its space with Gaze, you could cast Minor Illusion from its space to make your voice come out of its mouth.

It's fuzzy since there technically isn't a prohibition on taking multiple short rests back to back in RAW, but I'm pretty sure it's not RAI.

I'll admit that pre packet 6, I assumed short rests were going to be for HD use and a few minor recharges. Apparently they are going all in. I wonder what that will mean for species like the dragonborn (prof per day or regain on SR) and if classes who don't need them in 2014 (rogues and paladins for example) will now.

Oh even better! Goodbye to all STR Paladins. You are made fools by this Feat.
1. 8 STR,
2. 14 DEX,
3. 15 CHA
4. whine to DM to give you Stealth proficiency instead of heavy armor proficiency.
5. Custom lineage(+2 CHA) + Eldritch adept
6. ??
7. Profit

bonus:
I'm betting on Eldritch adept being a half-feat(+1 int, wis or cha) in next edition.
