I really like the idea that you don't need to actually forge a pact with the new Warlock.
Maybe you should read the new PHB a bit more closely:

It is so much more open, maybe your Patron doesn't even know about you and you found some Arcane knowlege so you can suck power from it like you are like a parasite.
Yeah, I think it does, in fact, know about you and what you are doing... although you might not precisely know what IT actually is yet... "its identity unclear".

Perhaps that is what you meant? Perhaps not? Perhaps there is something I am missing??? I'm not actually playing 2024 so I could easily miss something. 🤷‍♂️

I'm not sure you'll get much love here, given how this conversations has played out in previous threads.
But I agree, I like that it opens up some more interesting options in terms of story and roleplay.

We really needed subclasses/pacts/bloodlines/domains/orders/whatever at level 1.

later just feels wrong.
Or you just look at it as sort of a "coming of age".
At lvl 1-2 you can feel and use the power but you do not know where it comes from. At lvl 3 you have understood enough to identify your patron/bloodline/... and can start to utilizing the specifics of it.
