D&D General The blood war can finally end!

Could you elaborate on this. I am not sure what the 4e Approach was that changed the Blood War for you?
One tale told in the 4e lore was that the Abyss was created from a Shard of Evil planted by Tharizdun. At some point Asmodeus ventured into the Abyss and broke off a piece of the shard and used to kill the god he served. This shard adorns his "Ruby" Rod. The Abyss wants to be whole, it wants the shard back and compels the demons it created to seek out the shard and make it whole again.

In my version the Abyss is no longer growing because it is missing the shard. It wants the shard back so that it can continue boring through reality and continue creating layers, demons, chaos, and destruction. Asmodeus doesn't want to give it up because it gives him ultimate power in the nine hells and the power to kill gods (being a much more powerful artifact than it is usually represented) and thus threat with the heavenly celestials on somewhat equal terms.

No. They did not have magic weapons. Sure a Duke can add stuff, but they aren't fighting in the blood war.
No, I meant the feature/trait Magic Weapons.

Not the weapon weapons they were using.

Yeenoguh, for example would do bludgeoning damage with his flail. Since he had the Magic Weapon trait, his attack was considered magical for the purposes of overcoming things that could only be hurt by magic. Which would also allow him to bypass the damage resistance of a Raging Barbarian, despite not saying the attack does force damage like it does now.

You keep posting about the leaders.... Not the foot soldiers. Not the ones actually in the war.

The foot soldiers seem to have a resistance to each other attacks. So, they can still kill each other, but it takes longer.

Hmmm, maybe that's why the Blood War hasn't ended yet.

I recall from planescape torment there was green steel that allowed you to overcome damage resistance (maybe it was treated as a +1 weapon but without the bonus), it was mined in the lower planes so the various foot soldiers were likely equipped with it, though maybe more for the mercenaries fighting in the war than the fiends themselves since, as Zard just posted hit dice determined what you could hurt in 2e.

I actually like the idea of a magical metal being a part of the fiendish war machine.
