D&D General The adventure game vs the role-playing game

I like both aspects and am lucky enough to have players who do so too. I also play with a second group who are more adventure gamers, but I don't have quite as fun without the mix.

Edit: I suppose many would say I am more into the role-playing bit becasue I have made death an optional rule; PCs dont die at my table unless the player wants them to - which has happened. I guess story, and continuity of story, is my main motivation.

I feel much the same. Though death is always an option. I started with B/X so it colored my view a lot. I tend to prefer story and rp to pure adventure gaming, but sometimes characters die from random rolls. That’s the life of an adventurer.
