Tennant to Quit as Dr Who

Yeah, we were watching the National TV Awards, when he made his announcement live as part of his acceptance speech. This was not a happy household for a while!

Didn't hate him, but didn't much care for him either. The whole manic, spazzy, plucky take on the Doctor and his companions got played out for me fairly quickly. I kinda wish this could've happened sooner, so it would've meshed with this season's finale and we might even have had a full season next year. Instead, we have a micro-season to accomodate the schedule of someone who's on his way out.

:( Such a shame really. I would have at least liked David to appear in Season 5 when the Moff takes over. Alas though, twas not meant to be.

While I still liked Eccleston more, there's no doubt Tennant made the part all his own much like Tom Baker did in the 70's. He'll be indentified with the character in years to come so I really can't blame him for leaving (the dangers of typecasting and all that).

Sincere thanks from me David, for your wonderful tenure as the last Timelord. ;)

P.S. Now the big question is, who will be the 11th Doctor?!

I would have liked to see him stay for at least one more full series. The new Doctor will have some pretty big shoes to fill.
