D&D General Statue of Sending - How would you describe it?

How about the carved head of a creature with one massive ear and a comically unproportional mouth, but all exquisitely scuplted out of jade or white/pink marble. You whisper your message in the ear of the creature and the recipient’s creature open its eyes and then, when prompted, whispers the message back.

I did find a few images that might work, though not sure...
11179-black-dragon-orb-statue-800x800.jpg and 11431_dragon_claw_box_2000x.jpg

The first one the orb would glow and it would speak to you. The second is a box you could put a message in to send and the the orb would glow when a new message arrives.

It would need to be able to hold multiple messages, but I also don't want it to be a database, it needs to be limited.

There is also the book idea, where you write in it and messages appear in all linked books (can't remember the name of the book/series, but remember the main hero was named Richard...) But again I don't want a permanent record. I like the idea that only so many messages or messages for so long are kept, it means they need to be judicious in it's use and allows for plots where they may have missed info etc.
