Yeah, and if it's not Athas, then that means that the Dark Sun Athas is still out there somewhere else. The 5e DMG mentions Athas by name, so we know Athas exists as that name somewhere. Yet they(probably) put Dark Sun monsters in Doomspace.
Yeah, I think they just wanted to get those Planatsry Romance style, Joh. Carters of Mars-esque monsters here for Spaaaaaaace Adveeeeentuuuuurrrre

Yeah. It's really weird. The price of everything goes up, wages stay the same (but in reality shrink), and people have to make choices. Keep the lights on and the cupboard stocked...or buy game books. It's not a choice. It's cool that there are people well off enough to afford both. But WotC is kidding themselves if they think their audience is purely well-off and middle aged. Don't they have data that points to the vast majority of their audience being in their 20s? That's not the demographic most known for having large amounts of disposable income.

I did not have much disposable income when 3.5 hit the floor... I managed. I guess they know what they are doing. I think their marketing bureau has a few more ressources than we have to make an educated guess of how much they can charge.

As a comic and game retailer who is much closer to the consumer than they are, I don't tend to trust that marketing departments have a single clue what they're doing. (Though 5e from a marketing perspective has been very smart compared to past editions, or, say, Marvel's marketing to pick a particularly enraging example, so I guess I could cut them some slack!)

At any rate, like I said before, I like the way they did it here, so they're on the right track!

I remember some describing the Tablelands in Athas is only about the size of Texas on Earth, and there's only a little about what's outside the Tablelands that are mentioned. A lot of Athas isn't even known.
Yep. There are expanded maps in various books and supplements that detail the areas slightly outside the tablelands, but not by much.

Which is totally understandable. But I greatly appreciate the decision to make Doomspace its own (mini-)setting that just plays in the same thematic space as Dark Sun, instead of putting literal Athas into spelljammer.
