Species Names for Predators & Aliens

Too bad I've never found a corresponding website for the Predator. I would enjoy reading a good explanation of their abilities and technology.

Enjoy!
There is a pretty definitive Predator web site, although I can't recall it just now (still recovernig from the after-Gen Con haze). I believe there's a link to it in the free supplements. I've tried to collate as much material as possible (at the time I was writing the two supplements) for Aliens and Predators in my Freebies section at http://michael.tresca.net . They have timelines and lots of other stuff you can use in RPGs, along with a bazillion links to other resources.

My cousin and I recently analyzed Alien 4, which we didn't particularly like. In our opinion, the major underlying theme is humanity - the dehumanizing effect of technology and the humanization of technology.

The most human character in the story is an android.
The least human character is Ripley.

But then again, those are the musings of two very drunk geeks.
Ok, I'm glad to hear that my friends and I aren't the only geeks who do this... :D

While I wasnt a huge fan of 3 or 4, I think a large part of it for me was that my personal expectations were set quite high, and the moviemakers went a bit of a different direction. Well, ok, Ressurection just plain sucked for the most part, but there were one or two... well, nah it just sucked. Sorry. I did like 3 after viewing it a second time with the expectations down, much like an earlier poster said, more by itself than a continuation of the series.

Same thing with the Kill Bill movies for me, everybody was telling me how great they were, and how cool, and how wonderful, and watching the Kill Bill video and then seeing Kill Bill 2 in the theater were akin to chinese water torture; at first I thought 'hey this isnt bad' but after a while it became insufferable. I was this huge Tarantino fan and I was expecting so much, but what I was expecting had nothing to do with what Tarantino was trying to do, and I still can't quite figure that out. I know, I'm stupid or something, but I just didnt 'get it'.

i have an Alien vs predator novel from Dark Horse called hunters planet in which some scheming business man refers to the aliens as Archnidaes or some such thing..i couls go look it up but im not running up to my room to rumage through a box of old books os either look it up yourself or take my word for it. note though i may be wrong it bee nyears sincei read it.

I didn't like Alien resurrection at all. That said, I think there was the potential for it to be a good film. I just think there were too major problems with it that really destoryed it for me:

The psuedo science of the Genetics involved was atrocious. I went to see it whilst at uni with a bunch of mates from my course. Given that it's a Genetics degree, we had a lot of fun afterwards debating how implausible and flawed the pseudoscience of it was.

Secondly, I think the atmsphere was ruined when they tried to give it a strange 'sexy' feeling which I presume they felt might add to the horror element, trying to recapture the same feel from Alien. They went far too over the top andthen only left us with that muppet-dipped-in-glycerine thing at the end. Only my over-sexed lesbian friend enjoyed this side of the film.

Cheerio,

Ben

In the Dark Horse AvP novel “Prey”, written by Steve Perry (of ‘Matadora’ series fame), the Predators call the Aliens ‘Kainde Amedha’, meaning ‘Hard Meat’.

Alien Resurrection And the action concludes as the ship arrives at Earth with access to all of the plasma cannons, nukes, knives and sharp sticks (love that line!) Earth has to beat up on the few remaining aliens with.

Cheers,

You must have seen a different movie than me. Since the ship was destroyed and only the cargo vessel returned to earth which was a wasteland. In the version I saw. There was no Earth beating up the few remaining aliens.

Just flexing my minute knowlege of latin/greek, how does Cryptoxenis sound? I supose that could be the speicies(?) and any further would be canomorph or homomorph etc.

I quite liked Alien 3, and Alien Ressurection was fine until the baby hybrid thing. After that Ress went down hill.

Personally I would rather have seen AVP take place in the future, and make it more "Aliens" in feel.

I came up with the following taxonomical classifications for a GURPS AvP adaptation I worked on a few years ago:

Alien = Pedes atratus ('black-clad foot soldier')
Predator = Venator vafer ('artful hunter')
