Sorcerers with Quicken Spell

Does anyone think it would be unbalancing to allow sorcerers the use of quicken spell as a free action at the cost of a spell slot one additional level over the standard level increase?

I don't think it would be unbalanced to allow Sorcerors to cast Metamagically enhanced spells without any more of a penalty than Wizards, let alone an additional level adjustment. I've removed that rule in my campaigns completely, as I consider it against the concept (Sorcerors cast spells 'naturally'--but Wizards can fiddle around and adjust magic better? I don't think so) and totally unnecessary. Sorcerors got the short end of the stick in a lot of ways anyways.

I've been tempted to allow sorcerers to take Quicken Spell... the catch is, they have unlimited versatility with their metamagic, so I'm loath to increase its utility for them.

An extra +1 level? Prolly okay.

I'd allow sorcs to use Quicken Spell in conjunction with the Arcane Preparation feat, or to learn quickened versions of spells, but not to cast Quicken off the bat. It's a bit too powerful, and strips the wizard of a bit of individuality. (Sorcs get far more mileage out of Heighten, Twin, and Maximize as it stands.)
