Smallville - 11/3

I expected not to like this episode, but it turned out that I did. I was wary at first of the changes made to Mister Mxyzptlk, but considering that the target audience of Smallville is adolescent girls, I can't really blame them for casting the lovely and talented Trent Ford instead of a big-headed little person with a purple bowler. I actually ended up liking him as the character, anyway.

I liked the part about Mxy's name spelled backwards (although how a web search for "Mxyzptlk" is going to suggest "Kltpzyxm" as an alternative search is beyond me)... and also how he thought of everything as a game, which is important for the character. And I really appreciated how he was not a krypto-freak, just like Bart the other week. They're getting better in that regard.

One thing I thought was interesting was this apparent turn for the worse in Lex. I would have thought that taking Lionel more or les out of his life would have lightened him up a little, but indeed, it seems to have had the opposite effect... he now seems worse than before.

I think it's certain that we will see Mxy again, given that second-to-last scene. I really have to wonder what Lex had in that room he brought Mxy to. My guess is that he may have brought together a few ex-freaks-of-the-week for his own little Legion of Doom v1.0 and has some means of restoring Mxy's power in exchange for his services.

And no boring Clark/Lana moments! :D

Oh, and one other thing. I thought this was a pretty good episode for Chloe, developing her character and her relationship with Clark. Anyway... could Chloe be starting to catch on to Clark? She gave him a couple of looks toward the end that made me wonder.

After all this time and everything she has seen, it freaking about time. At least I hope so.

Freakin pitiful IMO. Mxyzptlk is supposed to be an alien with shapeshifting powers and the ability to polymother other people into just about anything. Smallville is becoming quite dull. I wish they [producers] would adhere to what they originally said about sticking to the history of the comics.

I enjoyed it, especially the scene at the end with Clark and Lex. I have a feeling that Lex has a reason for not liking jockboy being with his young, hot protege.

Not having read any spoilers, I totally missed out how that was supposed to be Mxyzptlk. Now THAT's a transformation - looney alien to Slavic exchange student?!!?

I have especially enjoyed the tension between Johnathan and Clark. Every turn, John tries to get Clark to retreat back to the shadows, just like any father in that position would do. He knows, but still refuses to accept, that he will not lose his son to some villain, or to kryptonite, or to some team of scientists, but to adulthood. Much as I like Tom Schneider, I hope they kill off Johnathan in the last season they plan to run, because the emotional payoff of such a breaking point would be a good one.

Actually, Mxy is supposed to be an imp from the 5th dimension that just loves messing around with us 3D-ers.

When Byrne reintroduced Mxy back in 87, he was using his powers to look all handsome and buff to win the affections of Lois.

Also, the picture on the net, from the search, looked demonic/fey. Also this 'family' has been around for a long time. So he's not just a balkin exhange student, who happens to have powers. Although they did downgrade him somewhat, to just the power of suggestion. In the comics he can control reality.
