I really like the several pages of monster design guidance. This book, for as much content as it has, is probably even better as a toolkit.
I will still be buying The Monster Overhaul when it comes out in June (it's back on track, publishing wise) as I want my monsters to be a bit weirder than the SRD-derived ones in this book.

No judgement on what others do, but I'm not inclined to put money in James Raggi's pocket.
And The Monster Overhaul offers a lot more, like sample lairs, random name generators, etc.

As @Whizbang Dustyboots said, just try making your own class. Or look around for a 3rd party one. In fact I think just yesterday somebody posted a home brew Gish to the Discord.
