Now through May 20th, you can pick up Sir Kindleknight's Tropical Island Sandbox | Roll20 VTT for 30% off!

VTT Map Pack with System-Neutral Setting and Five-Encounter Mini-Adventure

This addon map pack for Roll20 VTT includes five richly illustrated encounter maps, one regional exploration map, and a page full of themed tokens depicting the tropical setting of Malady Island. The maps feature artistically incorporated gridlines in areas where players are likely to traverse, reminiscent of the commercially printed battlemaps used in in-person tabletop games. The tokens include a variety of creatures like giant insects, spiders, and lizards, along with objects such as thatched-roof huts, a campfire, wooden canoes, a fallen log, spiderwebs, a stone circle, and a fish-drying rack. Where applicable, the maps include line-of-sight barriers for dynamic lighting.

The Maps

  • Malady Island (22x20 regional map)

  • Cuttlefish Cove (38x35 encounter map)

  • Chasm Crossing (26x29 encounter map)

  • Obsidian Cave (38x20 encounter map)*

  • Jungle Meadow (32x26 encounter map)

  • Spider Shrine (26x33 encounter map)*
*Includes line-of-sight barriers for dynamic lighting.

Setting & Encounters

Besides the artwork, Tropical Island Sandbox features a neatly organized library of system-neutral journal entries describing Malady Island and its inhabitants, including members of a malign cult who worship an evil spirit at an obsidian shrine in the shape of a colossal spider. The library also includes five encounters, one for each encounter map. Taken as a whole, the encounters form a mini-adventure called The Shrine of the Obsidian Spider. Additional journal entries include exploration guidelines, magic items, random tables for boons and banes (hazards), plus a list of adventure hooks to get your players to the island. For your convenience, there is a second instance of each encounter map, pre-populated with tokens and notes corresponding to the included encounters.

All of the written content is system-agnostic, geared toward d20-based game systems, and can be scaled for PCs of varying levels. Stat blocks for specific game systems are not included. Instead, the relevant journal entries steer you in the right direction for stats or help you determine them on the fly. To assist with scalability, a basic system for setting difficulty levels for your PCs' current power level is also included.

Bards and Sages is closing their doors! As they'll soon be removing all of their titles from circulation, they've marked all of their content (except the free stuff) down to $0.99 per item! Grab them before they're gone forever!

Effective March 6th, we began the process of closing Bards and Sages Publishing. The details of that decision can be found on our website at bardsandsages.com.

As part of the process, all rights to any short stories we published in our various anthologies will revert to their original authors on August 1st, and those published in our magazines will revert by the end of the year. We are not retaining those rights nor are we reassigning them to another publisher. To give folks the opportunity to grab any titles they were interested in before we remove them from circulation, we have placed all of our publications available at Drivethrufiction and Drivethrurpg on sale for 99 cents (except those that were originally free. They are still free to download),

If you are an author that previously published with us and you want to obtain print copies of an anthology or magazine issue before it is no longer available, please email me directly at jdawson@bardsandsages.com.
