The ranger liked having one when they were crossing a swamp and were attacked by a horde of skeletons. The rest of the PCs were huddled on a small hill waiting for the skeletons to come while the ranger ran along the water chopping.

In a previous 3.5 campaign, the PCs were in a boat going down a river when they got attacked by a tribe of humans in dugout canoes coming in from the shore. The half-orc barbarian got an enlarge person spell cast on him, then went running over the water (due to his ring of water walking) towards the nearest canoe, where he scooped up an enemy by the legs and used him as a human club against the others of his tribe in the other boats, all while screaming like a madman. It didn't take long for the other canoes to head back to shore.

plus when someone is clubbing your people in canoes with one of your men you're probably also immediately aware you will sink if you keep letting him do that lol.
