Another 8 here, I was caught up in the story and liked the feel of this one. I just don't know if this was a summer time type movie, yes a blockbuster and FX heavy but not a pop-corn action fun flick, it had plot and actting!

Gave it an Eight. I enjoyed it, and had only recently read the book for the first time, so it was all fresh on my mind. I found many of the changes in the film to be improvements, such as Ginnie accompanying Harry to the Room of Requirement. I also thought that Professor Slughorn was better portrayed in the film than the book, due largely to the excellent acting, which made him more realistic. I also thought that the attack on the Wesley house worked well at that point in the film too, as it needed a dramatic moment right about then which the book lacked. I do agree that something further needed to happen with Snape and the Death Eaters as there seemed little to no point in why they had to all arrive at Hogwarts only blow up one building and then immediately leave.

Hmm. Well- finally saw it a second time this evening.

Turns out? It was a better on a second viewing. Not sure why that was so - but it was.

I think the seven might be revised upwards to 7.5 - as opposed to downwards. It certainly seemed to flow better second time around. The subtle thinigs - like Harry always carrying the book - came through much better when I was less distracted by dialog and the meta-plot.

Ending still sucked though.

61% at 8 is rather impressive, very constant in rating.
Looks like it. And this is why I don't trust ENWorld for rating fantasy movies, since I have a suspicion that many people here set the bar lower for them. I saw Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and thought it was quite weak, with not much of a functional plot and serving more as a filler between the last movie and the last two (I gather Deathly Hallows will be 2 films) than a good stand-alone movie. I'd give it a 4, maybe a 5 at best.

I see it as the other way around, I feel we as fantasy/Sci-Fi fans are a bit hard on movies, because of our expectation.

I'm not sure it's fair to distrust EN World based on 21 people voting in this internet poll.

It was filler but then the book it is kind of based on is filler to. The plot I found just fine even though it was not always in the forefront. It's not a stand alone movie, it's the sixth in a series so I'm not sure why you would penalize the movie for that.

Gave it an 8. Easily one of the most enjoyable HP movies so far. The earlier ones either dragged along too much, or had Harry be much more of an "unwitting and undeserving hero". Here he really steps up to his game, and deserves the "protagonist" badge. The only one I liked as much was Goblet of Fire.

Watchable, but overall a below average movie. Ignoring the complaints I had with the book (which I can't hold the movie accountable for), my biggest complaint is that the movie simply doesn't work unless you've read the book. The story was very rushed, the titular plot ignored (despite the fact that it's part of a long running plot that is central to the series), and almost all the dramatic points (especially the end) were underwhelming. I also felt there were too many details hidden in places where they will be impossible to see without HD, which could be argued as a technique to tell more story than they otherwise had time for, but felt more like a ploy to push blu-ray more than an actual visual technique.

I will say that Draco gave a pretty darn good performance, and that the mis en scene in some scenes (like the early scene at the Weasley house) was well done.

Best of the Series and an Outstanding Movie in it's own right.

I rated it a 10!

As a stand-alone movie I thought it was excellent. It could easily be watched by someone who hasn't seen any of the other movies, or read the books, and not be lost one bit. This movie was much more pointed toward the plot without a lot of extra subplots, especially ones simply meant to give the feeling of flighty fantasy (although there's nothing wrong with flighty fantasy - it's just when the story turns dark, it's time to leave that behind).

As a part of the Harry Potter series, this movie is the Harry Potter equivalent of "The Empire Strikes Back". (Yeah, I think it's that good.) It was dark, real, and gritty. It definitely conveyed the feeling that play time is over, time to grow up. Harry and Friends are now dealing with real, life & death consequences (The Goblet of Fire gave us a small taste, and the previous movie, Order of the Pheonix, had life & death consequences too, but not until the very end of the movie). The bad guys are playing for keeps now, and with *SPOILER* Doumbledore dead, there's nbody covering his back except Hermione and Ron.*END SPOILER* Not to mention, I love how these movies show the proper way to use a uber-powerful NPC like Doumbledore (I'm looking at you Elminster;)). And Doumbledore unleashing some serious magic in the cave scene was just goose bump inducing.

There are subtleties and layers to this story (and series). I especially love how you just know there's more to Professor Snipe than meets the eye. Even after what he does in this movie. It seems like his actions prove which side he's on, but I think there's still more going on there than what's been revealed.

IMO, the series was good from the start, but has steadily gotten even better. Hopefully, the final chapter (which I believe is supposed to be broken up into two movies) will pull out all of the stops and be even better than this movie. If they do, I feel the two final movies will easily deserve an 11 out of 10.
