[OT]Insomnia sucks.

First Post
I have to get up for school tomorrow morning at 6 (5 and a half hours if your wondering). Trouble is I'm not the least bit tired. I've got insomnia, and I know that I'll be tired as hell all day tomorrow. GAH! Extra trouble: because I'm in the same timezone as P.Kitty, he's asleep now... where's a sleep technician when you need one...

Try reading war and peace. Failing that, read Psalms. Trust me 135 ALWAYS put me to sleep! ;)

Sorry, I don't have a copy of either handy... maybe I'll check out Wherabouts... that tends to be boring :D.

I feel your pain man. 'course, I've still got a paper to write :D
The only advice I can offer other than drugging yourself is to try deep relaxation therapy techniques:

Lay in bed

Close your eyes.

Think of your very own happt/stress free place (mine is a really kicka$$ red velvet couch on the beach)

While picturing your happy place (rather than something interesting like your DnD campaign, or that girl that sits in front of you in PoliSci)

Tense and relax all your muscle groups in some sort of order. I tend to start with my toes and work up, eventually ending with the muscles in my face.

Repeat as necessary, but if your having problems you're either not concentrating on your happy place or you've got the 'quididdles' as my ex-gf used to say and you're just hosed.

Hope that helps!

Read some Herman Melville...a page of that put me to sleep EVERY DAY that we read it in class this year in English....Good god, Billy Budd has to be one of the most god-awful books i've ever read. Thoreau seems to be pretty good at putting me to sleep as well--i've tried to start his essay on civil disobedience about 3 times and fallen asleep each time after a page or two...

I have to be in school at 8:15 AM my time. Trouble is, it's already 7 AM my time and I haven't closed an eye yet. :p

So I can emphasize... :)

Too late to help you this time, but perhaps next time...

Try eating a couple of lettuce sandwiches. It may seem silly, but both lettuce and carbohydrates (in the bread) are naturally soporific. Hot drinks, especially hot milk help too.

Get into bed and make sure you're fairly warm. Shut your eyes and imagine you're drifting backwards and downwards into a warm, dark hole - as if you were falling, back first, with the aid of an infinitely long feather fall spell. As you go, imagine looking up at the entrance to the hole getting smaller, and smaller and smaller as it fades away...

Hope that helps.

333 Dave,

Well, for the long term, exercise. Start up a regular exercise program and you'll sleep like a baby.

For the short term, read the SBA guides on starting a buisness. You've mentioned that you want to do that (so you have do do this anyway) and they're pretty dry reading.
