Multiple Metamagic feats Stacked

Hello all,

It is well known that you can add multiple metamagic feats on a given spell, but only if you add also the spell levels necessary for that.

Example: a wizard casts a quickened AND maximized magic missile. The spell slot level for that is:
1(original) + 3 (maximized) + 4 (quickened) = 8
so this wizard will spend a lvl 8 slot to cast a maximized and quickened magic missile.

My question is: If a sorcerer uses a metamagic feat, he must spend 1 full round to do that. What if he stacks metamagic feats on the same spell? What would be the "casting time"?
- 1 full round?
- 1 full round + 1 partial action each metamagic feat used after the first?
- 1 full round for each metamagid feat used?

A spontaneous caster using a metamagic feat on a 1-action casting time spell takes 1 full-round action, regardless of the number of metamagic feats used. For example, a sorcerer casting a empowered silenced stilled magic missile takes 1 full-round action to cast the spell.

Ok, but do you say that based on an explicit rule you've seen? Or is it your interpretation of the rules? I ask because me and my friend are arguing with each other. My point is the same as yours, but I can't find anything written about this...

thanks.

The sorcerer and bard, therefore, must take more time to cast a metamagic spell than a regular spell. If its normal casting time is 1 action, casting a metamagic spell is a full-round action for a sorcerer or bard. For spells with a longer casting time, it takes an extra full-round action to cast the spell.

When a metamagic feat is applied to a spell, it checks what the normal casting time is for that spell to determine how long it takes to cast. So when I empower a spell, it checks to see what the normal casting time is, finds that it is 1 action, and changes the casting time to 1 full-round action. When I silence the spell, it again checks the normal casting time, finds that is is 1 action, and changes the casting time to 1 full-round action, overlapping and overridding the previous change in casting time.

This is the best explaination I've seen for this. Meta magic feats always effect only the base spell, and that is key in many things that deal with them. Nicve explanation.
