D&D (2024) Monster Manual 2025 Monstrosities Video

Not one of the more interesting videos honestly. A few creatures shift to monstrosities. A few bigger or smaller version of creatures, but nothing exciting from a lore perspective.

Seems like no completely new creatures just new members of "families" as far as I can tell.

New landshark pup, big axe break and cocktrice. Not particular interesting.

I did like that they noted alot of classic mythological creatures fall into this category.

Honestly looking more forward to other creatures types like Celestials, Fiends, Plants, Oozes, Aberration were I think we get more really new stuff more. Curious what videos that we will get next week.

It is interesting. I was assuming all playable species might be moving to all be humanoids. That is clearly not the case. I wonder if that means gnolls are still on the table for a PC option? @Charlaquin , what do you think?
I had figured not all playable species would be humanoids, since goblins are becoming fey and they’ve been playable for a long time. But fey are well established as having a mix of antagonistic and friendly members, whereas fiends are pretty much universally antagonistic. That said, seeing a popular PC species like Kenku being reclassified to monstrosity, which while not necessarily evil do tend to be presented as, well, dangerous monsters, does give me some hope that gnolls being reclassified to fiends may not completely rule out PC gnolls as an option.

What I liked about this video is their explanation of what a monstrosities is. I never really understood the category before. I do now!

Notably, it seems like PC Goblins, Kobolds, Kenku, and others may be getting a secret buff in that they’ll be immune to Charm Person.
In Monsters of the Multiverse while NPC Hobgoblins were Fey, PC Hobgoblins, Goblins and Bugbears were Humanoids of the Goblinoid subtype with the Fey Ancestry Trait which was Advantage on saves vs the Charmed condition.

Monsters of the Multiverse was written when they were considering the changes in the Monster Manual.

Well, at least we know what everyone will choose when presented with "choose one creature type, you gain x, y, and z against creatures of those types." ;)

Picking Humanoid usually still is the best option, as you're almost always guaranteed to fight Humanoids.

And it goes back to 3e where if your Ranger could pick Humanoid (Human) as a favored enemy, than they should as you'll probably fight a lot of Humans in just about every campaign.
