Monks, Groovy or not so groovy?

Also is the quint monk book by mongoose publishing worth buying do they expand the monks much or are they just a waste of time and money?

I think one's enjoyment of playing a monk is, to a fair extent, contingent upon whether the GM adapts storylines that allow the monk to excel. Just as rangers and druids need the occasional outdoor adventure to shine, scenarios involving capture and escape or gladiatorial combat are great for monks.

That stated, I agree with those who point out the real genre problem with monks. So, for both reasons, I recommend against playing a monk in any campaign where th GM is less than 100% enthusiastic.

I would say that Quint Monk is one of the few Quint books actually worth getting.

I second that. Q. Monk was one of the best gaming books I've read. The Q. Monk II is pretty cool as well though I haven't done a cover-to-cover read yet.
