Michelle Trachtenberg

Its interesting culturally that Trachtenbeg's death is getting so much more press, when Gene Hackman (who is a much more prolific and famous actor and seems to have died under much more mysterious circumstances) has gotten very little in comparison.

Media has had a full 24 more hours to write about her death.

Joss Whedon has got to be sweating bullets. Post something nice about Trachtenberg and have people call him a hypocrite for treating her badly on set or say nothing and have people think him an insensitive clod for saying nothing.

This might be your feed. Even general purpose new sites like yahoo.com or <yourlocalnewpaper>.com now tend to curate your articles based on previous browsing habits or articles read (or simply demographic qualities they've determined about you).

I'm seeing a lot more about Hackman. More tellingly, I'm getting fewer Trachtenberg articles on my work computer (where this site is my only real nerd-culture mainstay) than on my home one.

Unfortunately, search engines and social media's attempts to spur more engagement have created massive echo chambers. Now I'm getting hit with new stuff they think that my past history tells them I'll be interested in while stuff that I actually want, like posts from actual friends, take a week to appear.

If I'm searching for something it means I don't know it. Showing me stuff I know doesn't help. I tend to use incognito windows unless it's actually some half-remembered thing that I'm searching for.

The last bit of news I read about Michelle Trachtenberg was that her family declined an autopsy, leaving the cause of death undetermined.

I was once told I was "probably going to die within 48 hours" (thanks doc!) and turned Simpsons yellow when my liver shut down for no apparent reason in my 20s, and the only thing they could guess was that it was extremely rare complication of mono (uncertain as tests for mono came back negative - apparently those aren't super-reliable though and I had had fever/chills/etc.).
On a more serious note, the doctor could have been worse. My uncle's liver was shutting down and none of the medical personnel told him he was dying. My mother, a retired nurse, looked at his chart and had to be the one to break the news. He wasn't going to get better and he wasn't a good candidate for transplant, so this was pretty much it. My mother was quite angry and complained to the hospital that nobody should have to be the one to tell their brother he's dying.

You don't usually perform an autopsy when the cause of death isn't suspicious. While her death might have been a surprise to a lot of us, I doubt it was a surprise to Michelle or those closest to her.
