magical crowbar?

Summer-Knight925

I have a factotum who, when attacked by skeletons and did not have a bludgeoning weapon, used his crowbar...with greatness (anyone for killing 2 within 3 rounds?)

my question is...can you make it magical in the combat sense?

Don't see why not. Also don't see why he doesn't carry around some free wooden sticks that he finds on the ground. The game calls them "clubs." Bludgeoning weapon, no cost, and no annoying -4 penalty to hit with. I did always find it funny how woefully inferior a metal crowbar was in combat compared to a piece of wood in 3E.

Crowbar 2 gp 5 lb.
A crowbar grants a +2 circumstance bonus on Strength checks made for such purposes. If used in combat, treat a crowbar as a one-handed improvised weapon that deals bludgeoning damage equal to that of a club of its size.

one handed [-4 to hit improvised] 1d6 damage ×2 crit, thrown range 10 ft., Bludgeoning.

Enhnacing the club aspect up to a +1 weapon sounds reasonable to drop off the -4 to hit [improvised].

Not to sure what Enhancing a crowbar's bonus to STR checks ought to cost. STR checks are generally Pass / Fail sort of thing due to 3E's take 20 rules.

the STR check would stay the same since the magic that is enhancing it is focused to harming others, so it would remain a +2 bonus

and the -4 would then go to a -3, BUT my character has a 17 strength (I rolled AMAZING for this guy, the DM almost didn't allow it) which means im attacking as my base attack bonus

and the clubs are free, sure....but beating a dragon to death with a crowbar is that much more fun

Imagine how well Misssster Freeman would have done if he had sssssimply taken the time to ssssscrounge for a ssssspare piece of wood.

I was thinking of the exact same thing...

But really, a wooden stick found in nature is probably as improvised a weapon as a crowbar. An actual manufactured club would be more along the lines of a baseball bat.

If the club had any work done on it at all, it would have a cost. Time spent manufacturing a weapon isn't free. Clubs and quarterstaves vs. the things listed as improvised weapons is one of the sillier distinctions in the RAW, IMO. I'd just let anything that could do real nasty damage if used as a weapon and is moderately efficiently designed to be easily swung around or whatever like a weapon as a weapon. Or at worst use frank's houserule that making it masterwork means it's no longer an improvised weapon. If you start attacking someone with a hammer, that'd seem just as effective and dangerous as a billy club or gauntlet to me!

There should be a distinction between 'improvised weapons' and 'not really weapons'. Think using a wooden stick or table leg to fend off an opponent, as opposed to using a bar chair or rolled up newspaper. The former should get maybe a -1 modifier, while the latter should get the full -4.

BTW, if you don't think you can use a rolled up newspaper as a weapon, watch the second Bourne movie...

i know its not a crowbar but i was currious if you could turn the rubber ball from Dungeonscape into an imporvised weapon an what would its stats be... im just imagineing a dodgeball weilding halfling and i thought it would be fun if obnoxius to play.
