D&D 5E magic items for druid?

I had a discussion with my dm yesterday and he was willing to hand some extra magic items to each character of our group. However we figured out a problem that there are very few magic items that would benefit a moon druid, which my character is. We both scoured through the dmg and found very few ones fitting for druid, and most of those were way too powerful to give to a level 4.

We have a bard, rogue/fighter, fighter/warlock and my druid. Every other character would snatch most basic magic item if we would get one, ie ring of protection.

We thought of few custom ones, such as granting ability to wild shape into plants or something similar, but the forms felt lacking.

My question is that have you guys noticed similar things? Have you guys made some custom magic items designed for druids?

If you're feeling inventive, you could scour older editions of D&D for inspiration or conversion. There's a free list of 3e items here and here; there will be some overlap, as Pathfinder built from WotC's 3.x Core ruleset.

Question is, what kind of magic items do you want? There's nothing a Druid or any 5e character "needs"; Magic Items are toys to be played with and enjoyed.

Yeah it isnt those need need, but more like want need. Something that helps druids in their own way. Maybe boost something for wild shape, or something other druidlike.

As a druid, I've always wanted a Staff of the Woodlands... But as my DM rolls for treasure, that isn't too likely. The other piece of equipment I've found useful is Dragon Scale Mail, as it bypasses the "no metal armour" restriction, and gives you resistance to a type of damage. The AC has proven more useful than the resistance, because of how many attacks I take after leaving Wild Shape before I can back off to spellcasting range.

Generally speaking, druids don't have a lot of good fits, especially those that shapeshift. We have a land druid and there's a really neat shield that gives advantage on initiative and perception checks - that was a good one for anyone using a shield, and might help if your druid likes to start battle as a humanoid and then shift after initiative is rolled. But the typical +1 items aren't so snazzy, and there aren't straight-up +1 to DC spellcaster items. Most of the best caster items are ultra rare / legendary.

What you could do is approach it from another angle; like maybe give them a magic item that isn't too special but specifically can still be worn while wildshaped. Like a ring of protection on a huge necklace or something (just trying to throw something out there). Or something that specifically shifts with them, like armor that turns into barding, or boots of jumping that still work on 4-legged creatures. Something that only works for a specific form could be interesting because it makes choices more meaningful and doesn't imbalance the entire game. Like armor that only turns into barding when you're a camel, or barbed armor that causes any spider form to gain a higher die-size on attacks. Just some thoughts.

But yes, if you're looking in the DMG, they didn't think much of the druid when writing it, I would say. (Nor the PHB, since they only got 2 class options.)

I gave the Druid at my table a black stone feather necklace that granted a flight speed of 10/round. More a novelty than a gamebreaker, but he liked the reference.

I have, in my game world, a single druidic organization (continent wide). All members of the order (and my homebrewed druid class for PCs) begin play with/receive:

Druidic Regalia: There is a cloak, medallion [in the shape of the organization's official symbol/seal] clasp, and the druids' sacred "Leaftip" spear [a normal spear with a leaf shaped blade].

The Druid's Cloak [which must be clasped with the medallion to function]: affords bonus protection to elemental energy [fire/heat, ice/cold, and lightning, only] damage. In converting for a 5e game, I guess I would turn this into formal "resistance" to these damage types.

Further, it allows "Blending" in natural surroundings...so how would that translate?...Advantage on Stealth/Hiding checks?...even in full view....in natural surroundings [Trees, obviously, work...a wooden beam in a house would not. Tall grasses work, thatching on a roof does not. Rocks/natural cavern walls work, a stone wall/construction does not.] They can not move or make noise for this blending-camouflage to work, though it will block heat-sensitive vision or olfactory senses [as most animals have]. But not sound, so any movement [e.g. wildshaping], attacks, attempts to spell cast, obviously, break the enchantment.

The spear, and ONLY a consecrated "Leaftip" druid's spear, the druid can "charge" the spear with natural magic energies to allow it to strike creatures normally resistant or immune to non-magical weapons. This "channeling" [of a sort] is +1 per 3 levels...for 5e purposes, I expect a static +1 should suffice...maybe a scaling +1 per 5 levels?

I add a cauldron [makin' potions] and torc to the regalia at higher [anytime 10+] levels...the torc's really just a spell augmentor/allows speech (and thus casting) in animal form and is dependent on the druid's place in the organization [yes, it's very much 1e-ified, in that you have to "challenge" your way up beyond a certain point, though does not require battles to the death].

Off the top of my head, enchanted/magic scimitar, just for attack bonuses...but that's kind of boring. Returning maybe? Call it the "Flying Fang" blade or something.

How about, tooootally stealing the old Dragonlance "hoopak", a sling (or steal it outright and make it a "staff-sling") that produces a whistling shriek when it is whirled, forcing saves against fear...and making your sling stones count as magical weapons, of course.

Any/all "boots of" things are great for druids.

A cloak or, OO! How 'bout, leather[hide, furs, whatever] armor made of blink dog hides...allows a few Misty Steps per day.

Torcs, though, could be taken in a bunch of direction....torc of underwater breathing? Torc of animal speech? Plant speech? Torc of animal/bird/reptilean/plant command?

I'd personally go for any wonderous item you find particularly amusing, not even overtly useful just something interesting to have. Folding boats, jars of perpetual mayo, whatever you like.

Rings don't work in wild shape? They used to in 3e and PF I believe. You really need to shore up that low AC in bear form.

Druids have shield proficiency, right? Maybe one of those floating shields, that should still keep hovering around you after you shift into beast form.

If you can use a ring of protection, even if the rest of the group wants it (me wannnts it), ask the DM for one that works while wild shaped. Low AC is the beasts' biggest flaw.
