I'm surprised you actually got a patent...

Patents are difficult to acquire; However, the US Patent office felt my method of displaying and articulating elevations in such a convenient manner was unique and worthy of the patent. (Universal Role Playing Game Elevation Indicator system, US patent # 6,938,897)
Developing the Elevation Indicator and actually producing it, has been an expensive, exciting, and often frustrating endeavor.
Laser engraving is the only permanent method I have found to create the markings, which means I need to use expensive cast acrylic rods to make the markings visible. It's the same material used by trophy makers. By the way - its optical quality allows it to be illuminated! - If someone wants to develop and produce a tiny LED platform for it.
Advertising is costly too, and with the demise of Dragon and Dungeon Magazines, I will be lucky if I can ever recoup my costs. Nevertheless, they work well, look great, and only cost as much as a box of minis.
I know that some people will continue to use thier dice, pill bottles, coke cans, and/or pizza box supports to show flying characters, but these really are better.

FWIW, we use the little three-legged plastic stands that come with the Pizza we order - hight tech dough balls, as it were.
