Lesser Darkness Spell

Is there a darkness spell somewhere which creates a kind of darkness which does NOT prevent Darkvision to work?

If you had to create such a spell, by the DMG rules about researching new spells, let's say you make the spell exactly the same as Darkness, except that Darvision works normally in the area, would you make it same level, higher level or lower level spell?

Consider that it would not work against monsters with Darkvision, but obviously the point is to cast it if YOU have darkvision, and basically get all your foes blinded against you.

There's a cantrip called "No Light" from BoVD.

It suppresses ordinary light sources, and cancels out a Light spell where they overlap, but it doesn't stop Darkvision.

Exactly what I was searching for, too!

Light* (1st level) in OD&D was one of my favourite spells because it didn´t block infravision. Just perfect for my elf when walking into a mêlée.
