Janurary Editorial Calender

Wow, I sang the praises of Dragon and Dungeon on multiple web sites when first launched, but this calendar is terrible. We get 5 articles (maybe 6), one of which features two races we already have articles on! If the content of this magazine doesn't pick up, I'm likely not to renew my DDI subscription. This is sad.

Dungeon has gotten weaker each month, though it APPEARS that we get three adventures in January (which is a nice change, and back to what has been advertised). Where are the super, super, great conversion articles from the first dungeon?

I like both "magazines" and I really like the compendium and character creator, but the quantity of the content has really, really, really dropped off.
The age-old complaint Dragon and Dungeon have had to deal with their entire existence . . . "Why isn't each issue's content tailored specifically for my needs and my tastes?!?!"

I'm happy with Digital Dragon and Digital Dungeon and look foward to January's articles. I don't know if I'll want to use the Dhampyr (the concept got abused in my 2e and 3e gaming groups years ago), but I'm excited to see how they put it together this time around.

did you read my post carefully? I actually said that they should strive for variety, to ensure that they aren't concentrating on one or two items, so it wouldn't fall prey to that problem.

I also said that the volume of content articles was down, not that I had a problem with the specific choices of content.

Other than that, your comments are right on.

I'm particularly baffled how you can dismiss the warforged & genasi article before you've even seen it (probably before it's even finished!).

Judging things before you see them is what the internet was built on. Why if we couldn't judge things before we see them a lot of fine bloggers would be out of work and you wouldn't want to put our blogging community on the street would you? :D

Seriously though while I agree that on the surface I would rather see an article on say ecology of the bugbear than another warforged article I will wait and see what it's about before judging it.

Still, can't the bugbear get some love?

By the way if that Dampyr does turn out to be a PC race then they can run as many articles about warforged as they like. Heck as long as I get my balanced undead PC race Dragon could change it's name to Warforged Quarterly for all I care.

I will note that for the latest Dungeon 161, while there may be only two adventures, they are both unusually long adventures. Note that from the page numbering on Touch of Madness, it ends on page 113, indicating that the issue length will be standard.

Actually, it's likely significantly longer than that, since the pages will need to be renumbered, as the SoW adventure is page numbered from 14-81, while Touch of Madness is from 72-113. Columns like Save my Game and Dungeoncraft have always been placed after the adventures, so the this months' Dungeon is not going to come in under volume.

Again - how do you know until you've seen it? :)

Even if the articles are wonderful I would rather have new creatures.

Genasi? I got the Dragon article, FRCS3E and FR player guide 4E.

Warforged? Eberron checked. Don't need more than it.

There's so many monsters that could be playable races... so more of the same doesn't satisfy me.

Wait, folks are complaining about new material for two popular races, long before we've even seen a description of the article? Seriously? No, I mean really, am I missing the joke here? Because, frankly, that's more stupid and childish than funny. These are two of my favorite races, currently! I'll take any new info about them!

Good for you, bad for me. It could be the greatest article ever, so what? I want NEW races not more of the same, so it's natural I'm not excited even without reading ;)

I guess that makes my "Bad for you, good for me" equally valid, and I'm the one who's getting something he wants. :)

Personally, I'm disappointed in all the preview class articles.

I thought the playtest articles were pretty cool, because they were basically entirely playable classes, but these previews are only good for levels 1-3, and it's stuff we'll be getting in a few months anyway. I'd rather have magazine space now set for new stuff, not stuff that's going to be useless and redundant in a few months.

Granted, I do think it's cool to have the druid (my favorite) and the other classes in my hands now, but I'd rather have spent my money on something different than have to spend more money later on the same content again.

Re: playtests

My guess it is too late for PH2 playtests and too early for PH3 playtests, and the Eberron Artificer playtest is already out.

I'd love to get a more formal update on how the artificer is turning out. I know Devs have been posting some on the WotC boards about changes.

I'd be much happier with the preview articles if they gave us a few more levels. Just so I can use/play it.

That's why I liked the Bard. We got 1 build through the Heroic Tier (1/6th of the class). The previews give 3 levels of both builds (which comes out to 1/10th).
