That is ambiguous. However:

Some items can be worn or carried without taking up space on a character’s body. The description of an item indicates when an item has this property.

Given the fact that you are asking this question at all, I must conclude that it doesn't explicitly say that it takes up no slot.

As such, refer to the above rule in the SRD.
